DMAE Supplements Do We Need Them?

Chester Ku-Lea has written DMAE Supplements Do We Need Them? and writes "DMAE (2-dimethylaminoethanol) is a chemical produced in the brain. This naturally occuring amino alcohol is produced in minuscule amounts by the brain, with higher concentrations being typically found in anchovies and sardines. Known primarily as a precursor to choline and acetylcholine (chemicals in the brain responsible for nerve transmissions and cognitive function), DMAE has been used most predominantly to improve memory and focus while stimulating neural activity. Many researchers believe that it may serve an anti-aging function by increasing the body’s capacity to produce acetylcholine – a deficiency commonly associated with memory loss.

DMAE is a memory booster substance common to a number of drugs that are known to stabilize cell membranes. Cell membrane degradation has been proposed as one of the prime mechanisms of aging. DMAE is increasingly favored by medical practitioners for its role in boosting brain power. DMAE has shown positive results in the treatment of a variety of cognitive and disruptive disorders, including attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and memory lapses. DMAE is even being used in skin care products designed to treat sagging skin and age spots.

DMAE may enhance water retention in connective skin tissue, causing the surface of the skin to tighten. The second, and more likely, explanation involves DMAE’s cholinergic feature, which enhances the skin’s ability to transmit acetylcholine. The neurotransmitter’s function in sending signals from nerves to muscles may promote a form of muscle tightening in the skin. It is important to note that although DMAE cannot fully reverse existing facial sagging, it may reduce its further progression. Some people report a cumulative effect with continued use of the compound.

Benefits

• improves memory and focus
• assists with ADHD (attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder)
• treats sun spots and sagging skin

Oily Skin Can Get Dehydrated Too

News Canada has written Health & Beauty: Oily Skin Can Get Dehydrated Too and writes "(NC)—All skin types - normal, dry, and oily - needs to be moisturized in summer. Your face may appear to have a shine without a morning lotion, "but what you may be witnessing," says Jacquie Hutchinson, national product trainer for Almay, "is a false sense of security."

The skin, she says, has the life-sustaining role of protecting our veins, arteries, blood and organs from exposure to the environment. "It is such an important role that even with the first sign of dehydration, the oil glands immediately pump out more oil to protect from potential damage. Non-moisturized, dehydrated skin therefore can easily look oily and as a result it ruins that flawless, matte look you are trying to achieve.

"Instead, all skin types should be moisturized at least twice a day, but if you like, tuck-away the heavier cream for winter use and apply a lighter lotion in summer."

Sunscreen Reminder
Skincare specialists virtually agree that daytime products for your face should include a sunscreen, all year-round.

"Our company's hypo-allergenic line up recommends kinetin for youthful, regeneration of the skin," Hutchinson said. "Kinetin is an anti-aging discovery found in green leafy plants and for daytime use, it is combined with UVA/UVB protection and offered in Almay's line of moisturizers, foundations, concealers and lipsticks.

"Kinetin, has healing benefits too," she said. "Clinical testing indicates an efficacious ability to help reverse and repair sun damaged skin and to protect from sunspots, lines, and dry patches. Unlike retinol-based formulas, Kinetin skincare requires no "sun-avoidance" program and recently, our two Kinetin products with SPF were awarded accreditation from the Canadian Dermatological Association."

For those of us concerned about applying too much product on oily or normal skin during the humid days of summer, specialists do suggest "the easiest solution is to get skin protecting and enhancing benefits, all in one."

Dry Skin Care

Sharon Hopkins has written Dry Skin Care and writes "With too many roles for woman to juggle in today’s fast paced, high pressured lifestyle, there is very little time for her to pamper herself.

With tension, worries, anxiety and age, the skin become less active leaving it drier, fragile, prone to wrinkle, lines near the eyes and mouth and losing the youthful colour and glow.

Failure of oil glands failing to release enough oils to moisturize and protect the skin results in dry skin. Environmental causes like dry air, harsh wind, hormonal imbalance, usage of aggressive chemicals, cosmetics or excessive bathing with harsh soaps saps the moisture from the skin making it dryer, flakier and chapped during winter.

Caring for Dry Skin

- Cleanse and Moisturize: The dry skin should be cleansed with a cold cream and alcohol-free skin fresheners to remove the cream. After cleansing, the skin needs a lubricating emollient or a moisturizer when the face is damp after the wash.

- Splash your face with cold water or gently wipe the skin with rose water to tone the skin nicely.

- Avoid using highly alkaline soaps and detergents like washing sodas and powders.

- Avoid the sun, harsh winds and hot baths. Use oil-based creams and make-up products only. Use soft towels or wash cloth to avoid irritation to the skin while wiping it.

- Smoking deprives the skin of oxygen and nutrients it needs for good health making the skin dry and leathery.

- Chapped or cracked skin - increase consumption of water. Keep chapped areas well lubricated and protected from the elements using a good nourishing cream or moisturizer.

- Use creamy, mild, pH-balanced products such moisture based cream gels, lotions, etc for dry skin care.

A well balanced diet of vegetables, fruits, grains, seeds and nuts provides the body with all the necessary vitamins and minerals needed for healthy skin. Drinking water and reducing solar exposure to a minimum is also beneficial. Garlic, onions, eggs and asparagus help to keep the skin smooth and youthful. Carrots, apricots, rich in vitamins A, C keep the skin supple. Increase intake of foods like leafy raw green veggies, dairy products like yoghurt, milk. Lessen fried foods, soft drinks, sugar, chocolates, junk foods, alcohol, caffeine and other foods that have diuretic effecting causing the body and skin to loose fluids, vitamins and essential minerals.

Aloe Vera No Wonder They Call It The Miracle Plant

Kay Blackiston has written Aloe Vera - No Wonder They Call It The 'Miracle Plant' and writes "Aloe Vera is a member of the Lily family. It is a succulent that looks a lot like a cactus and is known by various names such as the burnt plant, the miracle plant, the natural healer and the medicine plant. Although there are more than two hundred species of Aloe Vera, only a few have medicinal properties, and of these Aloe Vera Barbadensis is the most beneficial.

The Aloe Vera plant reaches maturity at about four years of age. The outer leaf is smooth and rubbery and inside is the gel and sap which is harvested, preserved and bottled to give either a juice or when combined with other ingredients creams, lotions and gels. About 96% of the plant is water. The rest is made up of minerals such as magnesium, zinc, copper, chromium and the antioxidant selenium, vitamins including the antioxidants C, E and beta carotene, 20 of the 22 amino acids required by the body including 7 of the 8 that cannot be manufactured by the body, sugars, enzymes and fatty acids. The combination of these elements has a more powerful effect together than they would individually. This is because each enhances the effect of the other, an occurrence that is known as synergism.

Aloe Vera works in two different areas; by promoting healing or preventing injury to the epithelial tissues (the skin, the lining of the gut, the bronchial tubes, etc) and by balancing the immune system when its antioxidants fight the free radicals produced by our metabolism and pollutants in the environment.

When taken internally, Aloe Vera is soothing to digestive tract irritations, such as colitis and peptic ulcers. The anti-inflammatory fatty acids are also helpful for the stomach, small intestine and colon. It alkalises the digestive juices preventing overacidity – a common cause of indigestion. Amongst many other ailments that have been helped by Aloe Vera are diverticulitis, Irritable Bowel Syndrome, constipation and haemorrhoids. Conditions that are improved by balancing the immune system are arthritis, asthma, ME (post viral fatigue syndrome) and LE (lupus).

When applied to the skin Aloe Vera improves a large variety of skin complaints such as eczema, psoriasis, ulcers, burns, stings, acne, bites, scrapes, abrasions, scalp care, sore muscles, cold sores, bruises, sprains and frostbite to name but a few!

More recent studies show Aloe Vera can help prolong survival time and stimulate the immune system of cancer patients. This is partly by fighting free radicals with its antioxidant properties and also by stimulating the white blood cells causing the release of immune-activating and anticancer substances such as interferons, interleukins and tumour necrosis factor. These properties of Aloe Vera have also made it an effective part of a nutrition support program for HIV patients; leading to fewer occurrences of infections such as thrush, fatigue and diarrhoea and an increase in the number of white blood cells meaning a boost to their immune system."

Achieving Youthful Healthy Skin with Vitamins A, C and E

Charlene J. Nuble has written Achieving Youthful Healthy Skin with Vitamins A, C and E and writes "We all want healthy skin. While the main reasons for pursuing healthy skin tend to be purely shallow and cosmetic in nature, healthy skin is beautiful and keeps us looking younger than our years and there are actually some practical health benefits to maintaining the good health for our skin. The purpose of the skin is to act as a barrier. It serves to prevent bacteria, viruses and other contaminants from entering the body and causing infection, illness and disease. There are many vitamins and minerals that help to keep skin healthy and thus be able to serve its vital role in the protection of the body.

Antioxidant vitamins such as Vitamin A, Vitamin C and Vitamin E are very important to healthy skin because it is these vitamins that share in the responsibility of controlling the damage that free radicals byproducts of energy production within the body and of environmental contaminants such as air pollution produce. Among the several types of damage done by free radicals is the destruction of collagen and elastin which are fibers that support the skin and keeps it looking supple. As these are damaged wrinkles and a lack of that youthful firmness can occur. Vitamin C also plays a part in the production of collagen making it essential to the function and look of the skin. Recent studies have found that Vitamin C and E used together may help to repair sun-damaged skin.

Vitamin A has its own important role in skin health and beauty in addition to its anti-oxidant properties. In terms of diet even small deficiencies can negatively affect the skin causing flakiness and dryness. Dryness can make lines and wrinkles that are much more apparent. Its primary use however, is as a topical solution for the treatment of severe acne and the reduction of lines and wrinkles themselves. Recent research has showed that a topical solution that contains both Vitamin A and Vitamin C can in some cases reverse the damage done by the aging process and by sun-damage.

Deficiencies in the Vitamin B complex can leave the skin prone to cracking, bleeding and dangerous skin lesions that allow all kinds of bacteria, viruses and other contaminants to easily enter the body. But in terms of strictly cosmetic concerns even a little shortage of the Vitamin B complex can result in scaly and poorly textured skin. Topical preparations have been found to play an important role in the hydrating of skin cells leading to noticeably firmer and healthier looking skin.

Vitamin K has been found to relieve those awful dark circles under the eyes. Some research has found that creams made up of both Vitamin K and Vitamin A are more effective than those that just contain Vitamin K but researchers are still following up on these results.

Minerals important to the look and to the health of the skin include selenium, copper and zinc. Selenium whether used as a topical solution or taken in the form of a dietary supplement is thought to play a big role in the prevention of skin cancer. Copper, zinc and Vitamin C work together to form elastin which helps to support skin keeping it firm and healthy.

Topical solutions and dietary supplements can help to keep the skin healthy and youthful in appearance. However, it is important to recognize that these are powerful substances and using them within the standard guidelines of dosage is essential to good health. There is such a thing as too much of abusing such natural healing powers which could then result to a not so pretty sight. But when used correctly however, your skin can look better than ever.

How to Discover the Most Potent Form of Aloe Vera

Michael Harvey has written How to Discover the Most Potent Form of Aloe Vera and writes "Aloe Vera is a wonderful, necessary supplement for good health and well being. It's anti-inflammatory, blood sugar balancing, anti-pathogenic, free radical scavenging, and immune modulating. As such it's extremely effective in bolstering and balancing the immune system.

There are many forms of immune system supplements on the market today including pills, liquid, aloe juice, and freeze dried soluble powders. If you do your due diligence and seek information you will reach the obvious conclusion that freeze dried aloe is by far the most effective way to absorb the benefits into your system.

The most potent aloe vera product on the market today is freeze dried. But freeze dried aloe vera is even more potent if it’s produced from only from the pure aloe gel. This will give the product the highest range of molecular weight possible. The more complete the molecular weight, the more complete the healing properties will be.

AIDS is a bell weather disease regarding the immune system because the HIV virus launches a direct attack upon it. Any product that positively affects the symptoms of this disease can certainly positively affect any other attack on the immune system.

Because of it's potency in terms of it's purity and absorption into the body, a freeze dried product from the gel only repairs the immune system in a universal fashion resulting in the reversal of countless number of conditions and diseases. If a powerfully destructive disease like AIDS can be reversed with a natural treatment that repairs the immune system in a universal fashion, then literally all disease will benefit from this type of treatment.

By hand filleting the gel off the Aloe leaf and combining other proprietary extraction and mixing techniques 21st Century Aloe Vera freeze dried powder contains all the healing advantages of the fresh plant in a concentrated form. 7-8 gallons of fresh gel make 1 ounce of this product! The biggest whole leaf juice competitor contains 97% of its molecular weights under 150,000 Daltons, which makes it almost useless in terms of healing properties.

Other more advanced freeze dried competitors do better with 99% of its molecular weight up to 1,000,000 Daltons. But they use alcohol in their antiquated freeze dried process while 21st Century uses none. 10% of 21st Century HGH has molecular weights from 1,000,000 to 2,500,000 Daltons. You can't find a more complete or potent aloe vera product anywhere.

In the rest of the aloe vera industry there are not very many products that actually offer anything more than 150,000 Daltons in molecular weights, a long way off any meaningful healing result.

Only the gel from aloe vera should be used for human consumption and not the whole leaf. All whole leaf products contain broken down MPS (Mucilaginous Poly Saccharide) molecules and therefore no real healing properties. Even worse than this is that whole leaf supplements contain caustic minerals and enzymes that are very hard on the stomach. Freeze dried products made only from the gel are very soothing and healing to the stomach.

MPS from the aloe plant is the sticky portion of the plant. It is a long sugar molecule arranged in long linear chains. The longer the chain, the more MPS weights. The MPS molecule ranges from 10,000 to 2,500,000 Daltons. For all the healing effects to be available in an aloe vera supplement, all the molecular weight ranges need to be there.

Unfortunately, there are not very many aloe vera products on the market that actually offer anything more than a few thousand Daltons in molecular weights of the MPS molecule. By hand filleting the gel off the leaf, freeze drying with a proprietary method of mixing the powder including the vast and complete range of MPS molecular weights 21st Century Aloe Vera contains all the healing advantages of the fresh plant."

How Are Antioxidants Linked to Anti-Aging

Carina MacInnes has written How Are Antioxidants Linked to Anti-Aging and writes "Antioxidants have been widely praised in the media. Many know they are linked with anti-aging properties. However this is not new, it all began with one man’s theory a half a century ago about how free radicals were associated with aging, and science has been trying to catch up with it ever since.

As Dr. Nicholas Perricone, M.D., states in his 2001 book, “The Wrinkle Cure”: “When it comes to aging, it’s not Father Time that’s public enemy number 1. It’s the very busy, very nasty little molecule called the free radical.”

The Free Radical Theory of Aging was published by Denman Harman in 1956. He theorized that aging is a result of free radical damage of the cells of the body. This is also called oxidative stress.

Today, a great deal of experimental evidence supports the premise that length of life is determined by the crucial balance of antioxidants with free radicals in the body. Oxidative stress is being shown to be at the root of disease and aging.

One example is that the life of the fruit fly was up to 30% longer when it was genetically altered with an addition of enzymatic antioxidants. Not only that, but the altered fruit flies also showed a reduced amount of age-related oxidative damage.

Studies of humans have also shown evidence of free radical damage playing a large part in human aging. One 1996 study compared markers of free radical damage in the blood and found evidence of the highest oxidative damage associated with the disabled elderly, an intermediate amount with the healthy elderly, and the lowest levels with the healthy adults.

The study also found that higher blood levels of antioxidant Vitamins C and E were associated with less disability, and signs of free radical damage were associated with more disability.

We need to rethink our concept of aging. We accept disease, disability, senility, wrinkles, and all the other many signs of aging as natural. Instead, we should view this as ‘unsuccessful aging’ – ie., aging associated with deterioration, disease and disability.

Successful aging is what happens when the human body is able to fight off oxidative stress, and continue to regenerate and repair itself. Successful aging is getting older healthily, without significant pathological conditions.

What the evidence is telling us is that it is crucial we take antioxidants and free radicals very seriously if we want to ‘age gracefully’ and avoid the many pitfalls of ‘unsuccessful aging’.

Even young people can be victims of unsuccessful aging, if they are not providing their bodies with the necessary balance of having have enough dietary antioxidants to fight off the free radicals.

In our modern culture, many of us are guilty of not getting adequate nutrition. It’s ironic, when we are the richest we have ever been that we should be feeding our bodies so poorly.

An interesting example of how a person can seriously damage their body with the wrong diet was seen in the Documentary ‘Super Size Me’ by Morgan Spurlock who ate only McDonald’s for a month. In just 30 days of having a junk food diet as his sole source of nutrition, his health was spiraling downwards and out of control.

The fact that he gained 25 pounds in a month was the least of his worries. He experienced a toxic liver, a significant increase in cholesterol, headaches, depression, a lower sex drive and poor skin. He returned to normal after his experiment ended.

Unfortunately a great many of us continue to do damage to our bodies, by smoking cigarettes, drinking coffee, eating junk food, and not eating our vegetables. When the media began warning us of free radicals, many of us did not understand the massive damage we were causing our bodies or how to prevent it, especially as most of the signs of damage are invisible until it is too late.

Free radical damage is accumulative and spreads like wildfire over time. Do your body a favor. Feed it a diet rich in antioxidant nutrition. Make it a habit, eat your fruits and vegetables, take your vitamins, and try to stop or cut down on damaging bad habits. You will thank yourself in 20 years.

Use antioxidants wisely to age successfully. Maybe like the fruit fly, you too can live 30% longer."

Clean Your Face With Ultra Botanicals Facial Cleanser

Sher Matsen has written Clean Your Face With Ultra Botanicals Facial Cleanser and writes "Women are chasing down ultra botanicals facial cleanser in droves. Women are pretty darn savvy when it comes to their skin and cosmetics, so they immediately recognized ultra botanicals as the healthiest facial cleanser on the market, with the papaya facial cleanser being their all time favorite.

A facial cleanser cleans the top layer of skin removing makeup, pore debris, and air pollutants that have attached themselves to the skin. It also removes dead skin cells and oil, leaving the skin with a healthy glow.

A well balanced, gentle cleanser that maintains the skins natural PH, is very important to women. Women insist on skin cleansers that not only clean their skin, but make their skin look healthier and younger. That's why the botanical facial cleansers have gained so much popularity. They are mild, they do not destroy the skins natural PH, and they replace important nutrients to the skin. After only a few weeks of use woman are seeing their skin look younger.

Just as their name indicates, these facial cleansers are made from natural products, rich in antioxidants including Vitamin C, and complete with anti aging properties. You will find ingredients such as aloe, coconut, jojoba, papaya, chamomile, orange blossom, yarrow, and even horsetail. No that's not the tail of a horse, but a very powerful antioxidant herb.

Because these botanical cleansers are so gentle, they can be used daily, both morning and night. Evening cleaning is especially important as your face has had an entire day of abuse. Your make up needs to be removed, you need to unclog your pores, and you need to remove the pollutants that you've been exposed to during your daily travels. To complete your facial cleansing you should add a botanical astringent which you should use after using your facial cleanser. You should also add a botanical scrub for exfoliating which you can use two or three times a week.

Botanical scrubs include ingredients such as apricot husks, while the astringents often include ingredients such as tea tree oil or green tea. These natural scrubs will gently remove dead skin and expose the fresh new layer of skin just waiting to reach the surface. The will help keep you skin both free of acne and bacteria which can cause acne.

So how do women really feel about botanical cleansers and related products. Aren't they like any other cleanser that's been on the market. A whole lot of hoopla, with basically the same results.

Women will emphatically tell you "no" botanical cleansers are different! They are gentler and more natural, and within two weeks you will not only feel the difference in your skin, you'll see a new healthy glow.

And here's the good news guys. There are full lines of botanical facial products available for men too. Those that have tried them are of the same opinion as the women. Now isn't that a first?

So treat yourself and your skin the way you deserve to be treated. Wrap yourself in mother nature!

Using the Right Skin Cleansers for Your Skin Type

Donna Monday has written Using the Right Skin Cleansers for Your Skin Type and writes "Whether you have oily skin, dry skin, or normal skin, it's very important that you choose the right type of skin cleansers for your skin type to obtain maximum results.

There is a dazzling array of skin cleansers on the market including: Oil facial cleansers, lemon facial cleanser, low foaming facial cleansers, acne facial cleansers, and even facial cleansers for men. Looking at facial cleanser reviews online may help you find the best facial cleansers for you. However, you may just decide to make your own homemade facial cleansers.

Whether your facial skin cleansers are homemade or store bought, washing your skin helps it shed old skin cells and stimulates the new ones. If you're in your teens and twenties, your skin cells renew themselves very quickly. The older you get, the longer the cells take to renew. This can lead to buildup of oil and dirt, which can make skin look dull and flaky.

By gently scrubbing your skin's surface, you can speed up the release of new cells, which will leave skin looking fresh and young. Mildness and rinsing ability are important factors when choosing a cleansing soap.

Dry skin types should use super fatty cleansing soaps with lots of moisture added.

Oily skin types should use a non-greasy, milky skin cleanser that leaves no sticky film on the skin.

Sensitive skin types should only use mild soaps with no fragrance or fancy ingredients.

Normal skin types can use any type of facial skin cleansers, homemade or store bought. However, you should make sure your cleanser rinses off easily with water.

Choosing the best skin cleanser for your skin type will ensure that your skin always looks fresh and beautiful.

The Many Health Benefits of Coconut Oil

Dianne Ronnow has written The Many Health Benefits of Coconut Oil and writes "Have you heard about coconut oil yet? People are adding coconut oil to their diets and are getting incredible results. They are losing weight, getting more energy, and getting healthier. Coconut oil is safe to use, and does not turn to fat in your body. It raises the metabolism, so you burn more fat and have more energy. It does not increase your cholesterol, but actually helps lower it. Coconut oil is wonderful diet addition for just about everyone.

Coconut oil is full of healthy benefits. Next to mother’s milk, it is nature’s highest source of medium chain fatty acids (MTC’s), which raise the body’s metabolism, leading to weight loss. It has fatty acids such as lauric acid and monoglycerides, similar to mother’s breast milk.

When lauric acid is consumed in the body, whether through mother’s milk or coconut oil, it enhances the immune system to help the body fight infections, diseases, bad bacteria and yeast invasions. Lauric aid is known to be anti-viral, anti-fungal and anti-bacterial.

Coconut oil raises the metabolism, which helps people who are trying to lose weight and people suffering from thyroid problems. Coconut stabilizes the blood sugar levels, helping with diabetes. It also protects the heart cells from damage.

Coconut oil helps relieve the symptoms of menopause, and pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS). Many women who suffer the effects of PMS have found the symptoms lessened when coconut oil was consumed often in their diet.

Coconut oil does not raise cholesterol. Studies have shown that people who use coconut oil have lower cholesterol than those who do not, even when the people consuming coconut also eat other high cholesterol foods like eggs and meat.

Unlike refined vegetable oils, coconut oil does not become rancid easily. When oil becomes rancid it becomes toxic as it oxidizes and causes free-radical damage in the body. The unsaturated oils in cooked foods can become rancid within hours of cooking it, even in the refrigerator. Coconut oil is so stable that it can be left a room temperature for at least a year, and it will not become rancid. Some coconut oil producers say coconut oil will last at least 3 years at room temperature before becoming rancid. Since it is such a stable cooking oil, you can use coconut oil in place of other oils, margarine, butter and shortening, for all your cooking needs.

Coconut oil smells good, tastes pleasant and is so good for our bodies that some people consume it straight, by the tablespoon, and use it in place of other oils on their salads. Many people also use it as an ingredient when juicing or making smoothies.

If all this good news isn’t enough, coconut oil one of the best things you can apply directly on your skin and hair. It not only gives temporary relief to skin problems like rashes, but it aids in healing and restoring skin to a younger appearance. It has also been known to help with people who suffer from yeast infections in the skin, and there is solid research that shows the MCTs in coconut oil do overcome yeast infections. Coconut oil also makes an excellent massage oil.

Using Acne Cleansers To Control Your Acne

Jamie Snodgrass has written Using Acne Cleansers To Control Your Acne and writes "Using Acne Cleansers To Control Your Acne

Before getting into acne control, let us know how it is formed. Oil called sebum is secreted normally from hair follicles which travel up to the pores where it lubricates and protects the skin. Sometimes, there are overworked oil glands which enlarge and produce too much sebum which can get trapped in the hair follicle. Thus the pores will get clogged which are either called blackheads or whiteheads, allow bacteria overgrowth of Propionibacterium acnes. In the surrounding skin, acne will be formed by inflaming the hair follicle by this bacterium.

Acne control
Including a variety of seeds, nuts, vegetables and fresh fruit in your diet can be a good control for acne. Drink plenty of water every day since dehydrated skin sheds dead cells which can lead to clogged pores and effective acne control. Most skin care products contain chemical ingredients that can aggravate acne. If you use make-up, try products that are non-comedogenic. Keeping stress levels low can also reduce the release of stress hormones and reduce the intensity of acne. Dairy products and red meat in your diet can cause acne. Heavily tanned skin can lead to blocked pores. Some of the acne control guidelines recommended by The American Academy of Dermatology are as follows. * Do not squeeze, pop or pick at the acne lesion. This can spread the inflammatory process and worsen the acne. * Wash your face twice a day gently with mild soap or sulfur soap. Just pat your face dry and do not rub it with a towel. * Avoid oil based products. * Avoid acne irritants such as airborne grease from fast food restaurants, rubbing or friction from sporting equipment etc. * Give anti-acne products time to clear up the lesions. This can mean several weeks or even months. * Some acne products increase the skin's photosensitivity. When in the sun wear a hat and use sunscreen and avoid tanning booths while using these products.

Acne Cleanser
Acne Cleansers have an important part in skin care. A good acne cleanser will remove make-up, oil build up, dirt and other debris from the skin's surface, preparing it for acne fighting treatments.

Before the acne treatment, the skin has to be washed properly. Avoid using bath soap on your skin for cleansing. There are many kinds of skin cleansers in the market and you can choose the mildest cleanser for your skin. They are all natural and medicated cleansers and are great in controlling acnes. Some of the natural daily cleansers are as shown.

1. PhytoMe Gentle Cleansing Gel Ingredients include herbal extracts that remove debris, impurities and excess sebum from the skin's surface to leave a clean refreshed feeling to your face. It can be used 2-3 times daily as a facial cleanser or make-up remover.

2. Clarins One-Step Facial Cleanser It includes all natural, facial cleanser/toner/make-up removers. This acne cleanser uses the properties of orange extracts to remove impurities and dirt from the surface of the skin. This product does not clog pores and it keeps the skin clean and nourished and is great even for oily skins.

Antioxidants Combating Aging and Diseas

Sylvia Riley writes Antioxidants Combating Aging and Disease and writes "Wouldn’t we all like to age gracefully (if at all for that matter!) and ward off the wrinkly signs and ill symptoms for as long as possible. Keys to longevity may be more accessible than we think, and it appears our diets play a critical role. Antioxidants are the knights in shining armor that subjugate the attack of free radicals in the body, the hazardous molecules that damage cells and procure aging and disease. Though antioxidants are produced naturally in the body, these decline with age, hence an increasing need to acquire them from the foods in our diet.

Before examining antioxidants more closely, it is important to take a look at the free radicals they serve to neutralize.

Free Radicals
Free radicals are created as by-products in our use of oxygen during metabolism such as the burning of food for energy. They are essentially oxidant molecules that are missing an electron and seek to restore themselves by targeting nearby cells in an attempt to recover this electron, potentially harming enzymes, DNA, proteins and cell membranes in the process. This damage can mutate cells and alter cell function, increasing the risk of numerous diseases and chronic conditions including arthritis, diabetes, cataracts, cancer, heart disease and stroke. Free radical damage is implicated in the onset of aging and its degenerative symptoms and diseases.

As well as generated within the body, free radicals come from environmental sources such as pollution, radiation, unhealthy foods, bacteria, viruses, cigarette smoke and UV light.

Antioxidants
Antioxidants serve to mitigate the harmful effect of free radicals by giving up an electron and stabilizing them in the process. Although we produce many of our own antioxidants within the body, food provides an essential source for these key players of our defense system. Vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients all have antioxidant properties. The most common examples include vitamins A, C and E, selenium and zinc, carotenoids, flavonoids, co-enzyme Q10, alpha-lipoic acid and glutathione.

As there are many different types of free radicals in the body a variety of antioxidants are required to protect against them. Antioxidants function best as a team, with each other and other nutrients and phytochemicals, which is why incorporating a wide range of plant foods into your diet is recommended. Phytochemical groups such as flavonoids and carotenoids correspond to the colour, taste and smell attributes of plants, hence eating a rainbow array of vegetables and fruits can offer a diverse selection of these potent antioxidants.

Antioxidant Rich Foods
Foods especially high in antioxidants include berries, plums, pomegranates, oranges, spinach, green tea, avocado, kale, broccoli, peas, onions, grapes and pure chocolate.

Scientists at the USDA (United States Department of Agriculture) have developed a rating scale that measures the total antioxidant capacity of a given food. This is known as the ORAC score (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity).

Of 40 common fruits and vegetables measured by the USDA, top ranking scores were those of prunes(5770), raisins (2830), blueberries (2400 – highest of all fresh foods with other berries close behind), kale (1770), spinach (1260), Brussels sprouts (980), plums (949), alfalfa sprouts (930), broccoli florets (890), beetroots (840), oranges (750 ), red peppers (710 ) and red grapes (739).

Pure cocoa surpasses all these foods with a whopping score of 26,00 units, more than 10 times the prestigious blueberry (though one is likely to eat far less in quantity). The extraordinary goji berry from Tibet also has outstanding antioxidant capacity with a score of 18,500 units; hardly surprising as they contain 500 times more vitamin C than oranges and even more beta-carotene than carrots!

According to studies on animals and human blood at the Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging at Tufts in Boston, high-ORAC foods may slow aging processes in the body and brain. Results found that high ORAC foods such as blueberries and spinach could increase the antioxidant power of human blood by 10-25%, prevent loss of long-term memory and learning ability in middle-aged rats, and protect rat blood vessels against oxygen damage.

Antioxidants and Aging
As we age, free radical levels rise and yet the body falls short in producing necessary amounts of antioxidants to meet this challenge. For example, cells generate more of the oxidants hydrogen peroxide and superoxide, yet levels of the necessary antioxidant glutathione required to neutralise these decline. The Free Radical Theory of Aging, first proposed by Harman in 1954, is supported by cross-species examination of animals with regard to life span, free radical damage and antioxidant defence. For example, the white-footed mouse lives about twice as long as the house mouse (8 versus 4 years), and is found to generate less oxidants and have higher levels of antioxidants. As Beckman and Ames write in The Free Radical Theory of Ageing Matures (1998), ‘Together, interspecies comparisons of oxidative damage, antioxidant defences, and oxidant generation provide some of the most compelling evidence that oxidants are one of the most significant determinants of life span.’

Very recent evidence comes from a study on dogs at the University of Toronto by Dr. Dwight Tapp and colleagues who found that ‘old dogs that were on an antioxidant diet performed better on a variety of cognitive tests than dogs that were not on the diet. In fact, the dogs eating antioxidant-fortified foods performed as well as young animals’.

Additional research by Dr. Rabinovitch and his team, studying aging at the University of Washington, Seattle, found that mice engineered to produce high levels of an antioxidant enzyme (catalase) lived 20 per cent longer and had less heart and other age-related diseases than controls.

In light of the role free radicals play in the onset of aging and disease, it is important to ensure our diets include a rich and diverse supply of antioxidants. These protective agents can be found abundantly in vegetables, fruits, nuts and seeds and are particularly high in superfoods.

The answer is always the same, the product that works for you is the best treatment. One product that many have had success with is the Proactive facial cleanser.

For those that are lucky enough not to have suffered from acne they tend to think it’s just a minor problem, or that it’s just a teenage problem. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Acne can be can cause emotional turmoil and play on the one’s self esteem. Teens are especially hit hard. In no other time in our lives is the way we look so important to us and the comments made by other teens can be really hard on ones self esteem.

For some the acne disappears as they leave the teen years behind only to reappear the occasional zit. For others they continue to suffer sometimes into their 50’s. Acne sufferers will tell you that the problem is not so trivial as some might think.

This is one of the reasons that The Proactive line of skin care products has met with such anticipation. Especially the gentle proactive facial cleanser which has proven to be a real solution for many acne sufferers.

Most acne sufferers have spent years trying one cleanser after another, sometimes having good results, other times failure. But the proactive facial cleanser seems to be something different. It works at attacking the acne at the root of the problem or should we say the follicle of the problem. Several testimonials and reviews seem to indicated that many users have had excellent results with the Proactive facial cleanser.

If you want to hear it from the users, you need only do a quick search online for acne sufferers’ forums and discussion groups. There you can read for yourself how a group of people all had found results from different products yet when this group all tried Proactive Facial Cleanser they all reported good results. Even for those that did not see their acne disappear found their acne reduced to a level they could deal with in no time at all.

For years acne patients have searched the globe to find a product that worked and worked well, while enduring the physical painful and the mental anguish. Acne can be socially debilitating. Sunless Sun Tanning

Sher Matsen has written Sunless Sun Tanning and writes "With more and more of us understanding the serious consequences of sun tanning, we are looking for alternatives. Remember the first self tanners that hit the shelves many years ago – wella you became instant carrot orange.

Well we’ve come along way babe! The new sunless tanning products are much more natural looking than past generations of sunless tanning products.

How do Sunless Tanning Products Work? Your skin is made up of two main layers: the outer layer called the inner layer called the dermis. In both normal sun tanning and sunless sun tanning the action occurs in the epidermis level.

The deepest layer of the epidermis is called the stratum basale and this is the layer that is affected during normal sun tanning. The stratum corneum is the outermost layer of the epidermis and this is the layer that is affected by most sunless-tanning products.

In today’s market there are several different kinds of sunless-tanning products available. Since the early 1960s people have been able to get their tan from a bottle. Coppertone was the first to hit the market with its Quick Tanning Lotion.

What it is most remembered for is the wonderful carrot orange hue it produced. There have been many advancements in self tanning since the early years. Now a days you can purchase tanning pills, self tanners, sunless tanners, bronzers, and a host of other similar type products. Y

ou can smooth, swipe or spray on a light bronze glow or a deep, dark tan. Most of these products take 45 to 60 minutes to work, and then another couple of hours to dry properly.

The most effective sunless or self tanning products contain the active ingredient DHA [dihydroxyacetone]. DHA is a colorless sugar that interacts with the dead cells located in the stratum corneum of the epidermis. As the sugar interacts with the dead skin cells, the skin changes color. This changes last from 3 to 7 days, and then you’ll need to reapply.

Gels, lotions or sprays that contain DHA are said to be the most reliable. There are other very good products on the market as well, such as tan accelerators that contain the amino acid tyrosine. Tyrosine stimulates and increases the formation of melanin, thereby accelerating the tanning process. Currently there is no scientific data available to support these claims.

Tanning pills contain canthaxanthin, a color additive used in some foods. Canthaxanthin is approved by the FDA for food use, but it is not approved the use of it in tanning agents. This is because when it is used as a color additive very small amounts are needed, but when used as a tanning agent much larger quantities are needed.

After canthaxanthin is eaten, it is deposited all over your body, including in your skin, which turns an orange-brown colour. These types of tanning pills have been linked to side effects such as hepatitis and canthaxanthin retinopathy. Canthaxanthin retinopathy is a condition in which yellow deposits form in the retina of the eye.

Bronzers are also very popular. Bronzers come in the form of powders or moisturizers. They create an instant tan that can be removed with soap and water. Bronzers are really a line of make-up, because they only tint the surface of your skin. If you're going to be outdoors make certain to still use your regular sunscreen protection.

Sunless tanning agents do not protect you from the damaging rays of the sun unless they have UVA and UVB protection. Your sunless tan will only last as long as the colored skin layer remains intact on your body, so moisturize, moisturize, and moisturize some more, because this will slow down the shedding process and extend the life of your sunless tan.

Tanning Mother Natures Way

When you tan, what your melanocytes produce melanin pigment in reaction to ultraviolet light in sunlight which stimulated melanin production.

The pigment is able to absorb UV radiation in sunlight, so it is able to protect the cells from UV damage.

Melanin production is slow and takes a fair bit of time, which is why people cannot get a sun tan in one day [although there is a small percentage of the population that can]. What you need to do is expose yourself to the suns UV rays for a short period of time for between 4 to 7 days. By doing this your cells will build up a level of protection.

For many races melanin production is continuous, so the skin is always pigmented to some degree, so they have a constant protection from UV radiation. Very low cancer rates are seen in these races.

Melanocytes produce two different pigments: eumelanin which is brown, and phaeomelanin which is yellow and red. Red-heads produce more phaeomelanin and less eumelanin, which is why they don’t tan well.

Sunlight arrives on earth in three forms: infrared (heat), visible light and ultraviolet. Ultraviolet light is classified into three categories: UVA which causes tanning, UVB which damages the skin and causes sunburn, and UVC which is filtered out by the atmosphere and never reaches earth.

99% of the sun's UV radiation at sea level is UVA. UVB is the one the reeks havoc on our skin causing premature aging, deep wrinkles, and in the worst cases cancer.

UV radiation is reflected by different surfaces so you can amplify your exposure depending on the reflective surface. Snow reflects up to 90% of UV light and has been known to cause snow blindness and severe sunburn from skiing on a sunny day. Sand reflects up to 20% of UVB that hits it so you get extra UV exposure at the beach.

The flip to this is that some things absorb almost all the UV radiation. Glass is a perfect example – that’s why you don’t burn in your car on a hot day. Sunscreens use chemicals that have UV-absorbing properties.

Sunburn Caucasian people do not have a natural built in protection as do many races. So if you are a Caucasian with no tan then your skin is not protected from the UV rays, making you susceptible to sunburn if you spend too much time in the sun. Sunburn leaves your skin red and extremely painful, and in severe cases blisters will appear.

Over the course of several hours, exposed skin turns bright red and becomes extremely painful when touched. Most times you can feel the heat radiating from the skin. When you get a sunburn you have killed skin cells. The outer epidermis are already dead skin cells, but just below these cells is a continuous supply of new cells being created to replenish the top layer of dead cells.

When you sit in the sun you expose yourself to ultraviolet light which kills cells. The ultraviolet light is able to reach the layer of living cells in the epidermis and begins to damage and kill them.

Your body knows that cells are being killed, so your immune system is activated to clean things up. Blood flow to the area is increased which opens up capillary walls so that white blood cells can come in and remove the damaged cells.

The increased blood flow makes your skin warm and red. The nerve endings for pain begin sending signals to your brain. The damaged cells release chemicals that activate pain receptors and this is the end result where your sunburn hurts or is very sensitive.

You can avoid sunburn by using a proper strength sunscreen or pace yourself getting a tan which then acts as a natural sunscreen created with its own special pigment cells in the epidermis. When you have a nice tan and go out in the sun you don’t get burnt, unless you’re so fair you never tan in which case you need to use sunscreen all the time.

Evidence is now showing that the massive increase in skin cancer is as a result of sun exposure that occurred, in many cases, over 20 years ago. So take care of your skin by using sunscreen, it’s the only skin you’ve got for your lifetime.

We all seem to strive for the rich golden color of summer. It lifts our spirits and makes us feel better all over. Which ever method you decide to use to get that golden brown skin, use common sense to achieve your goals and always wear sunscreen when outside.

Your skin will thank you 20 or 30 years from now when you’re not all wrinkled like a prune and not undergoing skin cancer treatments. Take care of your skin it’s got to last you a lifetime!"

Introduction to Sunless Tanning

Ken Marlborough has written An Introduction to Sunless Tanning and writes "When the weather starts to warm up and the days get longer, we are all drawn outdoors to enjoy the sun. Many will recall seemingly endless hours outdoors, soaking up the sun's rays without a care. Unfortunately, sunbathing isn't as carefree an activity as it used to be. These days, there's more to worry about, such as premature aging, scarring and blemishes, or even skin cancer.

Some people desire quicker results than what natural sunlight offers. For such people, sunless tanning is the route to take. Sunless tanning refers to the process of attaining a suntan by sunless means, as the term implies. Sunless tanning might take the form of lotions, sprays, powders, pills, tanning beds, or tanning booths. The efficacy and results of these methods vary. To understand how sunless tanners work, it's necessary to first know what a suntan is, however.

The sun emits three types of ultraviolet or UV radiation: UVC, at 100 to 290 nm, UVB, at 290 to 320 nm, and UVA, at 320 to 400 nm. It is the UVA and UVB rays that are the most harmful to our skin. UVB is easier to protect against than UVA, but both cause very real damage.

The body has its own defenses against UV radiation. Our skin protects us from UV damage by producing melanin, a substance that absorbs the harmful rays in order to protect our DNA. When the body produces melanin, our skin darkens, taking on a darker appearance. This is how we tan.

Most sunless tanning aids are harmless, but not all will prevent the skin damage caused by the sun and UV radiation. Furthermore, methods such as tanning beds and tanning pills are controversial and thought to be unsafe. The FDA, in fact, has not approved most tanning pills.

Staying out of the sun does not have to mean staying pale at all. There are numerous ways to get a tan without risking our health. The cost of sunless tanning options ranges from just a few dollars for cream, to $100 or more for a few sessions in a tanning salon. In an ideal situation, the result will be a great looking without anyone knowing the difference! "

Sunless Tanning Info provides detailed information about sunless tanning lotion, booths, sprays, salons, and pills, as well as reviews of best sunless tanning products and methods. Sunless Tanning Info is the sister site of Tanning Beds Web.

10 Important Sunless Tanning Safety Tips

James Allen has written 10 Important Sunless Tanning Safety Tips and writes "If you are a sunless tanner, your skin's health is very important to you. Here are some tips for you to review at your leisure and share with your friends and family. After you have read them, return once in awhile for a refresher so that you will keep safety foremost and always in your sunless tanning program.

1. Shaving - Avoid shaving right before applying sunless tanning products to avoid irritation.

2. Lighten up - For areas you want to protect from getting too dark, pre-apply baby oil, gel or lotion to places like your knees and elbows, then use sunless tanner.

3. Streaking - Getting wet too soon after applying sunless tanning products could result in streaks. So wait after applications, at least two hours or so, before swimming, showering or bathing.

4. Orange -To avoid orange hands when applying products, cheap, disposable gloves from a dime or wholesale store are great to use. Regardless of glove wearing, thoroughly wash hands and fingernails after application.

5. Expunge - Eliminate dead skin via washing or exfoliating before applying sunless tanning products.

6. Special Areas - When using self-tanning products with your knees, feet, hands and elbows, either dilute first with a moisturizing lotion or use very small amounts when gently rubbing in. Rubbing with a make-up sponge applicator works well for these areas, too.

7. How-to-Apply - To apply sunless tanning products, begin working on a small area. Gently, in an even manner, rub in the product generously. Reach out to other areas in a swirling, but still gentle and even rub, rather than going in an up-and-down direction. To reach your back, try using a sponge paint roller or sponge paintbrush; a little goes a long way, so slow and steady does it.

8. Fabric Stains - Be careful when using sunless tanning agents that list padimate O, lisadimate, aminobenzoic acid or roxadimate in the ingredients. These may cause discoloration, staining fabrics a yellowish hue.

9. Inside / Outside - Remember that when you use sunless or self- tanning products, if they list no sunscreen in their ingredients, you will not be protected from harmful UV rays. And even if you are using a sunscreen, it does not last or work beyond a few hours. So take caution running in and out, and be prepared. Either carry along more sunscreen product to reapply or wear, and carry or take protective clothing and gear.

10. Eyewear - For those enjoying a lot of outdoor weather, check into investing in good protective eyewear. Read labels for 100% UV protection. Check with a pharmacist or healthcare provider for help selecting appropriate levels for children and yourself.

By carefully considering these sunless tanning tips, you can help ensure you safely keep that wonderful glow all year long and enjoy the sizzle without the sun!

Anti Aging Eye Perfecting Cream

Dhananjay kumar has written Anti Aging Eye Perfecting Cream and writes "Aging is a natural process. But millions of people worldwide are concerned about growing older and search for anti-aging solutions. It is surely not healthy to be completely obsessed with aging. Today there are hundreds of products and treatments that can make you look and feel younger while slowing the aging process.

Some of the most popular anti-aging products are skin supplements and the ones related to eye. Anti-aging creams or anti-wrinkle creams like Anti aging eye cream are a rage and can provide one with soothing treatment that improves the skin texture. Many of the anti-aging cosmetics allow one to see improvement while retaining the natural beauty. The most vulnerable area for aging is the area around the eyes that is why anti aging eye cream are one of the best selling skin care products.

Things to consider before buying an anti aging eye perfecting cream:

* Because the area around the eyes is so thin, it's not only more vulnerable to damage, it's the first place one can begin to notice changes.

* Most eye creams go through rigorous safety testing because of the potential for the product to enter the eye.

* Facial moisturizers do not work in place of eye creams, because most contain active ingredients that are far too potent for the fragile eye area.

* No eye product or any anti aging eye care products should cause burning or stinging in the eye. If you experience these types of symptoms, discontinue use immediately.

* Eye creams come in two basic "kinds": anti-wrinkle, and those that fight bags, puffiness and dark circles. * According to many experts, an eye cream should be the first step in any anti-aging protocol.

* Eye creams tend to be more moisturizing (emollient), which makes them better for the area around the eye (due to the lack of natural oil glands and moisture on the skin nearest to the eye), and less so for the facial skin.

* Consumers think the more eye cream they apply, the better the product works. This is not true. Use the directed amount because the active ingredients are taken into account when the directions are given.

* Eye-tightening creams should be the last product you apply to your face (over foundation), because other creams, lotions and foundations can break down the active ingredients. * Creams, serums and gels all have pros and cons: Gels (without alcohol, which dry out the skin) are better for acne-prone skin. Emollient creams (suitable for normal to dry skin) work well under makeup."

How to Make 3 Wonderfully Easy Winter Skin Toners

Danielle Sims has written How to Make 3 Wonderfully Easy Winter Skin Toners and writes "Cold weather is on its way and the winter season is just around the corner. What does this mean to your skin? Cold weather can be damaging to your skin. If your face is not properly protected, it can dry out, crack, and wrinkle! It is imperative to have a good moisturizer. But do we need a toner too?

For years I concentrated on cleansers and moisturizers, neglecting toners. The only time a toner was used was when I purchased a complete skin care regimen set that contained a toner at the department store. When I began to make my own skin care products, I was concerned mainly with lotions and moisturizers. I finally began to realize that a toner has many benefits that I was missing out on by not including it in my daily skincare program:

* Removes traces of cleanser that was left behind after cleansing * Help restore your skin to its nature acid PH * Refresh your skin throughout the day * Set make up * Adds additional moisture * Conditions the skin

One thing to remember is to keep it simple. Prepare a toner that can be used for both a toner and a refresher. Before you make your toner, be sure to have the bottle available for storage. A good choice is a spray bottle, so you can use your toner as a refresher throughout the day. Be sure to store your toner in a cool place, the refrigerator is ideal. You may use a cotton ball to apply your toner after cleansing and also spritz throughout the day.

A couple of easy toners you can make to help nourish, protect, and moisturize your skin during the winter are the PH Toner, Herbal Refresher, and the Aloe Soother.

PH Toner
1Cups distilled water 4 TBS Bragg's Apple Cider vinegar(or any other nature non- distilled apple vinegar) 10 drops of rose oil 8 drops of chamomile oil Mix all ingredients in your bottle of choice and shake vigorously before each use. You may use a cotton ball to apply your toner after cleansing and spritz throughout the day.

Herbal Refresher
1 cup witch hazel 1/2 cup distilled water 1 chamomile tea bag 10 drops of Lavender Oil 6 drops Sandlewood Oil Heat water to boil and steep the tea bag in the water for 15 minutes. Add the chamomile water to the witch hazel and add essential oil. Shake before each use.

Aloe Soother
1/2 cup aloe vera gel 1 cup distilled water 10 drops chamomile oil Mix all ingredients and shake well before each use.

All three toner recipes are great to help you get through the cold and wintery harsh months that follow. Your skin will thank you by remaining soft, refreshed and healthy."

Why Using a Toner as Part of Your Skin Care Regime is Important

Dr Danny T. Siegenthaler has written Why Using a Toner as Part of Your Skin Care Regime is Important and writes "As women are experiencing ever increasing demands on their time, many have opted out of using a toner in their skin care regime and only use cleansing and moisturising as the key steps to keeping their skin looking healthy, vibrant and young.

This is however a big mistake, as toning is a very important part of a daily skin care regime. Toning follows the cleansing routine and actually serves some important functions.

1. Toning closes the pores of the skin. Once cleansing of the skin has been completed, the pores tend to be open and therefore slightly enlarged. As a result, moisture can leave the skin, which in return dehydrates the skin. This is not a desired effect on the contrary loss of moisture from the skin is highly undesirable.2. Closing of the pores has another benefit. It stops dust and other air born particles from settling in the pores and potentially causing problems. In addition, good quality, natural toners are anti-septic and provides moisture and nutrients to the skin, preparing the skin for the third step in a skin care regime - Moisturising. Some skin care companies have tried to eliminate the need for this step combining the cleansing and toning steps into one step and formulated their cleansers to include toning functions.

Now think about this for a second and you will realise how ridiculous this concept is. A cleanser is supposed to open the pores and remove dirt and stale natural oils from the pores and thus cleansing the skin. A toner, as we discussed above, is designed to close to pores... See the contradiction? It cannot possibly work.

Any astringent (substance that closes the pores) cannot be applied to the skin at the same time as a product that is supposed to open and cleanse the pores. It just does not work. The whole idea is just to market a product to time-poor women by telling them they can combine these to steps and thus save time.

Unfortunately most women do not fully understand just how their skin care products work. They like them, their skin may even look good and the products therefore appear to be doing their job. In reality however, these types of skin care products are only doing a moderate amount of caring for the skin and the bulk of the products do very little at all except look good on the shelf and cost money.

The three steps in any good daily skin care regime must include cleansing, toning and moisturising. In addition, you should always consider using natural skin care products, as there are too many synthetic and artificial chemicals in commercially made skin care products which may actually do you harm.

Let's look at a natural toner and it's ingredients to understand how they actually work.

The Wild Herb Toner from Wildcrafted Herbal Products is used for oily skin and has a number of specifically chosen ingredients, which include:

Rosemary, Witch hazel, Juniper Berry and Peppermint. These herbs and essential oils are chosen for their toning and invigorating effects on the skin, while Grapefruit, Niaouli and Sweet Orange refresh the skin and combine to maintain normal sebum (oil) secretion.

As you can see, it is important to understand the functions a particular product is supposed to have and how these functions interact with the other steps in your daily skin care regime. Knowing this you will now probably understand why toning is a necessary part of your daily skin care regime.

Tune Up Your Skin With Toner

Sharon Hopkins has written Tune Up Your Skin With Toner and write "Skin toners are the next step after a facial cleansing routine. Skin toners ensure complete removal from the skin of all cleansing preparations. They freshen and tone up the skin and prepare a clean surface for the application of make-up. They also restore the acid or alkali balance of the skin, because they are pH balanced. They are designed to penetrate pores, refresh and cool your skin while clearing away excess oil, impurities and dead skin cells that were not removed with your cleanser.

Toners restore the skin's natural pH balance. When you wash your face, the pH balance of the skin is distorted leading to skin working overtime to restore pH levels; the process of skin restoring the pH levels on its own can take up as much as half and hour or more. By using a skin toner, the pH level of your skin is restored instantly.

Choose a toner appropriate for your skin type. A wide variety of toners are available. Alcohol dries the skin and harms the soluble collagen below the surface of the skin. It is thus safer to use an alcohol-free toner.

The common herbs used in toners include witch hazel, geranium, honey, lemon, ivy, sage, nettle and burdock. Witch hazel has a tendency to dry the skin. It is ideal to combine it with moisturizers such as Vitamin E, honey, etc. Rosewater helps keep skin and face moisturized, fresh and balances the pH levels.

Essential oils are the gentlest way of toning up. Rose water for normal or dry/sensitive skin or witch hazel for oilier skins is ideal bases for fresheners. These can be applied with cotton wool, using smooth, gentle upward strokes or sprayed on to the face. Oily skin benefits from juniper or lemongrass whereas drier skins would benefit from rose or sandalwood.

Apply the skin toner to a cotton ball and sweep it gently across your face. The cotton wool should come out relatively clean when toning. If it is not clean it indicates the cleansing has not been done properly. Do not succumb to the temptation to tone the skin whenever you feel it has become dirty. It should be used only after the skin has completed a cleansing routine and not as a substitute for cleansing. So, remember that your toner must function as a toner and not as a cleanser.

Toning is pleasant and refreshing, can act as an additional cleanser on very oily or dirty skin, and is valuable in removing any traces of grease that the cleanser may have left behind. Think of it as the polishing touch in your skin care treatment.

Homemade Toner Recipes

Watermelon Toner
1 cup watermelon chunks, 2 tbsp witch hazel and 2 tbsp distilled water
Purée watermelon chunks in a processor or blender. Strain the liquid and discard the solids. Mix the strained liquid with the remaining ingredients, stir and pour into a glass bottle. Dab on face using a cotton ball. This is rich in sugar and vitamins A, B and cup Watermelon has astringent properties, and the super high water content makes it an excellent skin refresher.

Rose Skin Toner
3 ½ cups of witch hazel, ½ cup dried rose petals and 5 sprigs of fresh rosemary.
Mix ingredients together making sure it is all blended well. Strain the blend and splash on your face after cleansing.

Aha's For Normalizing Combination Skin

Dawn Keadic has written Aha's For Normalizing Combination Skin and writes "Often the biggest frustration for those with combination skin is caring for it properly. Having both dry and oily skin areas on your face can make skin care seem almost impossible. There are, however, things that you can do to care for and keep your combination skin healthy and feeling good.

For one thing, some areas of your face may feel tight after you wash. This will typically be on the parts of your face not included in the T-zone area. These areas will likely also look flaky and dull and may feel rough.

First of all, make sure you are cleansing every day. Use a mild cleanser on your entire face. Use the cleanser twice a day, preferably before bed at night and after get up in the morning. These are the times your face most needs to be cleansed anyway, but if you have combination skin it is imperative.

Get a good moisturizer. Once you have identified which parts of your face are the dry parts, most likely these areas are not in the T-zone and this is the area you will treat. Use the moisturizer on those dry areas only. Using it in your oily T-zone will only make that area worse.

The goal when you have combination skin is to normalize it. Normalizing is trying to gain a balance between the oily and dry areas so that all your skin looks and feels the same. In order to accomplish this feat, you want to look for products that are made for such normalization. For instance, ones that contain alpha hydroxyl acids (fruit acids or AHA’s) or retinols will work best. Retinols are a vitamin A derivative. Such products should help you to gain more normal and even looking skin.

The reason AHA creams are so beneficial to your skin is that they area catalyst for skin cell regeneration. By burning off or removing the top layer of skin cells (or the too oily and too dry ones) they expose the healthier skin cells beneath them. These cells are more likely to absorb moisturizers. They also help improve skin elasticity through their water-binding properties. This can help with that “tight” feeling you may get in the dry areas with your combination skin. The only thing about which you need to be aware is that once you are using AHA’s, you need to continue using them. Once you stop, your cells will not regenerate at the rate they were with the AHA and will return to their original state very soon.

Skincare Tips: Don't Forget Your Sunscreen, Indoors Or Out

News Canada has written Skincare Tips: Don't Forget Your Sunscreen, Indoors Or Out and writes "
(NC)—You can never overdo the sunscreen reminder, say skincare specialists, especially when it comes to keeping both the aging UVA and the burning UVB rays off your face and lips.

"Too often we hear women say they forget to apply a daily sunscreen," says Jacquie Hutchinson, national product trainer for Almay, "or they don't include it automatically in their morning routine. Yet, most women are ardently loyal to their anti-aging products, forgetting that exposure to ultraviolet light, indoors or out, can ruin it all. The easiest solution is to find just the right anti-aging, daytime moisturizer with an effective, UVA/UVB sunscreen built in."

Ultraviolet Light Explained
* UVA rays, called the aging rays, penetrate deeply into the skin and are thought to be responsible for photo damage, wrinkles, premature aging, and skin cancer.
* UVB rays, called the burning rays, are shorter but stronger than UVA. UVB affects the skin's outer layers and is pegged as the primary cause of sunburn, skin aging and skin cancer.

The non-irritating sunscreen formula, titanium dioxide and zinc oxide, has been added to Almay's already robust line-up of hypo-allergenic products. And, says Hutchinson, "both of our daytime moisturizers – Kinetin Age Decelerating Daily Lotion and Kinetin Age Decelerating Daily Cream – are rich in kinetin, a cell-rejuvenating discovery found in leafy green plants.

"There are healing benefits with kinetin too. Clinical testing shows it helps to reverse and repair sun damaged skin, and will also protect from sunspots, lines, and dry patches. Unlike some aging products that use a sun-sensitive acid base, Kinetin skincare requires no "sun-avoidance" program. It protects and revitalizes, with no redness, peeling, or irritation. Indeed, our two, Age Decelerating products with SPF," she said, "have been awarded accreditation from the Canadian Dermatological Association."

There are a few more essentials however, to help protect your good health and your good looks this summer. Almay suggests:

* Wear a wide-brimmed hat for shade, and to protect your hair too.
* Wear sunglasses that block 99 or 100 percent of UV radiation to protect your vision and save you from crow's feet.
* Protect lips by drinking lots of water and use lipsticks with a sunscreen. Pure Tints Protective Lip Care, for example, contains an SPF 25 plus conditioning ingredients and you can get a clear, no-colour formula for children and men.
* Use your morning moisturizer in the sun. For example, if you love your Kinetin lotion with UVA and UVB protection, re-apply it as need be to your face, neck and shoulders. There is nothing like being able to count on non-irritating, hypo-allergenic ingredients.

Botox Alternative: Moisturizer Wrinkle Cream Thats Works!

Jasmine Yap has written Botox Alternative: Moisturizer Wrinkle Cream Thats Works! and writes " What is Botox?

Listen to Dr. Andrew Weil ( Harvard Medical doctor ) He is Oprah Winfrey's and Larry King's physician and possibly the most-respected doctor in America.

Dr. Weil says: "Botox is Botulism Toxin (poison) and works by paralyzing facial muscles. It only works for 3 months and then you need more injections. If too much of it is injected (or injected into the wrong areas), you can end up with droopy eyelids that will stay that way for weeks. Other side effects are headaches, respiratory infections, flu-like symptoms, nausea, and pain in the face."

The FDA has only approved Botox for use on an extremely limited area (less than 5% of your entire face). That area is the tiny little space where sometimes there is a furrow between your eyebrows. You can't use Botox ANYWHERE ELSE! . Treatment costs about $700 per treatment and the patient need a new treatment every 90 days!

How if i tell you can Look as much as 20-years younger, without using Botox Treatment ?

The most natural ingredient for anti wrinkle cream is made from something called "emu oil". This is the best triple-refined emu oil in the world. And, an extra ingredient is added to it while it is being made into a cream. This extra ingredient is a suspension of superfine silicon dioxide nanoprisms (from the fractionated silicon dioxide) which has been "fractionated" instead of powderized. That means instead of turning into flakes when it is processed turns into billions of Microscopic Three-Dimensional Nanoprisms. This effect will last until you wash your face and the invisible silicon dioxide is removed, it turns out emu oil is probably the best cosmetic ingredient in the world. That's because its molecules are much smaller than the molecules in human skin.

What is Emu Oil and how its related to wrinkle cream ?

Emu oil was discovered by Aborigines many thousands of years ago as a skin moisturizer, antiseptic, and as an aid in the relief of sunburn, muscular aches and joint pain, as well as aiding in the healing of injuries. The emu oil is rendered from a thick layer of fat on the back yielding 5 - 7 liters of unsaturated, non-toxic, highly penetrating oil. Over ten years of research done at Global Canyon Ranch (Texas) has revealed that the emu oil has unique thermodynamic properties. Combined with other ingredients, the oil can be used to machine stainless steel much more rapidly, thus considerable savings in labor results.

The combination of Emu oil and Nanoprisms can penetrate down through Seven Layers of Human Skin! This makes it the best moisturizer in the world.

Do most of people who've used Botox say it has given them a "Herman Munster" type face! "

Eye Cream: Believe It Or Not?

Leon Chaddock has written Eye Cream: Believe It Or Not? and writes "Does eye cream really work? While we can not say for every brand out there, but what we do know is that many do in fact help you to lose those crows feet and help to provide you with more skin tone that you can be proud of. What most people do not know, though, is that eye cream works because of what is inside of it being as natural as you will find. The products that defy age work because they are filled with great quality ingredients that would make anything do well.

So, what magical product is inside eye cream that makes it work so well? It is not the ingredient per say but the vitamins that are in it instead. For example, those ingredients that are full of natural antioxidants are full of all the good stuff our bodies need. Many eye cream products are full of just that- antioxidants. These vitamins are super tough. They can help to clean out your arteries and to help you to fight disease as well as just helping to keep your skin healthy looking. In fact, many antioxidants are able to help rejuvenate various types of elements within the body including the eyes and skin. So, antioxidants that are in eye cream can in fact help to improve your look.

When you are out and about looking for the eye cream that you will use, flip it over and find out which natural ingredients are in the product. If you can not tell, you’ll want to look for those products that have a lot of vitamins especially your vitamin E’s. These are full of the antioxidants that your body needs anyway. A hint here; foods that are rich in antioxidants are usually very brightly colored greens, oranges, and other bright or dark colors. These are foods that you want to include in your diet anyway. Eye cream with antioxidants is just what you need.
