Treating Acne, Scars, and Wrinkles With a TCA Trichloroacetic Acid Skin Peel

David Maillie has written Treating Acne, Scars, and Wrinkles With a TCA Trichloroacetic Acid Skin Peel and writes "Everyone has heard of skin peels and there are many - lactic, glycolic, salicylic, TCA (trichloroacetic acid), and phenol. Of these there are basically 3 levels:

Minor, superficial peels - lactic, glycolic, salicylic.
Medium depth peels - TCA, Jessner's
Deep peels - phenol.

We will only deal with medium strength TCA peels here as they are the easiest to apply (Jessner's can require multiple concurrent applications and taping to aide in skin penetration), safest, and, by far, the most effective against numerous skin ailments/conditions. They are also one of the most effective treatments for acne currently known to the medical community.

The most common treated area is the face. TCA is applied usually in a cream. Doctors will mix Obagi, Apeel, or other previously prepared cream with TCA and then apply this mixture to the face or body area to be treated. The creams tend to have a skin dye of green or blue so the doctor can easily see what areas have and or have not been treated. It is usually applied with a cotton or foam applicator. This is then left on for 10-20 minutes. Some doctors prefer to use a straight (non-cream) solution of TCA. This works much faster and penetrates deeper and is used for deeper peels.

After application and proper time for the desired depth is achieved, the doctor will apply a neutralizer. This is usually just a mixture of baking soda and water made into a paste. Some doctors will add chipped ice to further cool the skin. The skin will now be inflammed and if no dye was used will look like a bad sunburn. This will last 2-4 days until it starts to peel off and reveal new, clean, younger looking skin. Depending on the skin problems treated it may take several treatments, but a major difference will be seen immediately.

The results from a TCA peel are far more reaching than with a regular, superficial peel. Results can last 6 months to a year and it has been known to keep acne at bay, shrink and lessen acne scars, reduce and tighten up wrinkles, improve color, pigmentation, etc... A TCA peel cannot be applied as often as a more superficial peel. Generally speaking, a superficial peel can be applied every 2-5 weeks. A Stronger, medium depth peel needs more time batween peels for the skin to properly heal and regenerate. Doctors like to wait 2-6 months or more between these peels.

This process of chemically exfoliating the skin is more rapid and deeper in a TCA peel than in most peels. Many skin peels, like lactic, glycolic and salicylic are good at reducing oily buildup (overactive sebaceous glands), and very minor skin imperfections. but they cannot effectively treat acne, wrinkles, fine lines, etc... TCA has been proven to treat these deeper skin conditions and is offered at almost every dermatologist and plastic surgeon office. The improvement in skin color, tone, etc... is so drastic that women, even men are lining up in droves to have this done all over the world."

Dealing With The Emotional Scars Of Acne

Peter Vine has written Dealing With The Emotional Scars Of Acne and writes "Acne is widely accepted, as no longer, being a physical problem. There can be deep emotional issues that arise from acne irrespective of the severity of the condition. Over the last 5 years or so, doctors have started to look at some of the more serious psychological effects of acne. Some of the most problematic psychological effects of acne include:

1. A feeling of lowered self-esteem
2. A reduction in self-confidence
3. Social withdrawal
4. Feelings of depression
5. Feelings of anger and aggression
6. Feelings of despair.

It is becoming increasing common for one of these feelings leading to another, and another and so on, each new issue re-enforcing the previous in a vicious feedback loop, concluding in feelings of helplessness. Interestingly the degree of impact is rarely proportional to the extent to which acne is present. Sometimes a small number of spots can cause lasting emotional stress, in some individuals, where as others may not be affected at all.

The first important factor to remember when you start to feel the emotional stress of acne is that these days acne is much easier to treat than it was maybe only 10 years ago. Having acne is not a life-long sentence, and there are an enormous range of treatment options. Do not suffer in silence, go and see your Doctor, carry out research on the internet, talk to friends and family that may have been through similar experiences.

The second critical factor is the simple acknowledgement, and sharing how your acne is making you feel. Do not skip this element in your discussion about treatments with your doctor. The key to recovery from the emotional issues, starts with an acceptance that there is more to acne than the simple physical scars. Speak to someone today about how you feel.

The third critical factor in addressing the impact of acne is simply deciding to get medical help now, and sticking to the treatment prescribed. If the first treatment does not work, go back and try another and another, until you get the right one. Be sure to share with your Doctor how acne is affecting your life, and ensure you put across the seriousness of the issue.

Both the physical and the emotional side of acne can now be very effectively treated, as long as you are willing to take some action, and act on the advice you are given."

Major Causes of Acne Scars and How to Get Rid of Them

Ling Fong has written Major Causes of Acne Scars and How to Get Rid of Them and writes "An injury may result in acne scars in the body as it tries to recover from the damage.Degree of vulnerability towards acne is one of the most effective causes that determine the intensity of acne scars in one's body.Acne scars are, though, much related to reasonable degree of pain, usually extending its range to extreme cases.

Raised or keloid scars, caused by the extra amount of skin tissue incorporated is the most frequently observed type of acne scars.Extra collagen left under the skin is the main factor determining the type and size of scars. To illustrate, people with darker skins are much prone to suffer from huge scars that can be considered as extraordinary as compared to optimum sized scars.

The second type of acne scars is usually called sunken scars that are resulted from the loss of normal skin tissue.Being observed more common in the public, sunken scars are believed to create ambigious spots, pits, in the skin.Sunken scars may be of different types according to the way each looks. For instance, ice-pick sunken scars resemble steep sides in one's body.

Independent of the type of tissue your body has, there are still precautions to take in order to avoid acne scars, at least their dramatic effect in the body.Pressing on the spots are not considered as a good habit since there are negative resultings of this action. As a practical and indeed rational solution, one must get started with treatment before it is too late.A moderation in diet can even affect the rate of development of acne scars in the body. Also, in order to keep the body fresh and healthy, use of oil free skin care accessories are helpful.

Avoidance of marginal acne scars is directly related to seriously employing these basic tasks and it is, in fact, vital for public health.

There are over-the-counter treatments, but none of them are as quick as people want them to be. Some people get very good results from these treatments if they are patient, but more than 40% of adolescents have it severe enough to need treatment by a physician. Acne generally begins between the ages of ten and thirteen, and lasts for five to ten years. Both young men and young women are afflicted by acne, but women are more likely to have intermittent cases due to the hormonal changes connected with their menstrual cycles, and from makeup. Women are more likely than men to consult a physician for fast acne treatment.

More severe scarring usually responds well to a series of chemical peels over three to four months. If a doctor advocates this type of treatment, the first peels will be 35 per cent glycolic acid peel and gradually work up to a 70 per cent peel. If it is treating severe breakouts in addition to the scars, he or she may choose a salicylic acid peel, which will help clear up acne while treating the scars. It will take three to four months on average to see results."

Acne Scars

Dr. Edward F. Group III, DC, Ph.D, ND, DACBN has written Acne Scars and writes "Acne is an inflammation of the skin that affects people from every country and every culture around the world. In the US, acne is predominantly thought of as a teenage dilemma, as more than eighty percent of teens and preteens will develop some form of acne. However, the condition certainly affects a large number of adults and even infants. The scientific name for the condition is acne vulgaris because acne usually strikes in plainly visible locations such as the face, neck, chest and back. There are various types of acne that range in annoyance, severity, and healing time. The most severe type of acne may even lead scars that if not treated properly, may be visible for a lifetime. If you or a loved one is troubled by severe acne, here's what you need to know about acne scars and what you need to do to avoid and care for them.

How Does Acne Form?
Contact with an oily substance such as mineral oil, vegetable oil, or petroleum is a potential cause of acne, as is the use of certain medication and steroids. However, acne is most often cause by the secretion of androgens. Acne is also aggravated by milk or dairy products, red meat and fast food. Androgens are sex hormones that are initially secreted at the onset of puberty. They are male hormones but they are secreted by females as well. Androgens stimulate the production of oil from the skin's oil glands. Acne occurs when these overactive oil glands become blocked, causing the oil to build up in the gland and swell. A bacteria called Propionibacterium acnes normally colonizes this swollen gland causing the development of inflammation and pus. In particularly severe cases, the glands may burst into the skin and produce cysts.

Types Of Acne
Acne blemishes are categorized into four grades, ranging from mild to very severe.

Grade I: Mild acne falls into this category. People with grade I acne generally have blackheads and whiteheads but pimples are not present.
Grade II: The condition is considered moderate acne when blackheads, whiteheads, and small pimples are present, but they are confined to the face and the inflammation they cause is minimal.
Grade III: Severe acne includes blackheads, whiteheads, and deeper pimples with more pronounced swelling.
Grade IV: acne is considered very severe when it occurs on the face, neck, shoulders, chest, and back. Pustules and deeper cysts occur with very severe acne and scarring may result if the condition is not cared for properly.

Preventing Acne Scars
The most important rule for acne sufferers to remember is that you should never pick or squeeze acne blemishes. This can lead to the spread of acne and the development of acne scars. Instead, there are a number of herbal, homeopathic, and traditional formulas that can be used to treat acne and prevent the development of acne scars. Herbs work naturally with the body to reduce acne blemishes and prevent the development of acne scars. Echinacea and poke root are often used for their anti-inflammatory properties and red clover may be beneficial for its estrogenic action. Witch hazel has excellent astringent properties and may be very effective on acne.

Relieving Acne Scars
Acupuncture: Stagnant of Chi in the channels of the face is said to be the cause of acne. Acupuncture performed on these points of the face may help relieve acne, and prevent the development of acne scars.

Surgery: In moderate to severe cases of acne, doctors may use surgery to open up the blemishes and remove blackheads and whiteheads. Unlike medication treatments, the effects of acne surgery are usually more immediate. And surgery is also effective in reducing the development and visibility of acne scars.

Cleaning the intestinal Tract: Acne can be a by-product of a filthy intestinal tract and colon. In most cases when the colon is clean the acne will go away. I recommend the intestinal cleanser Oxy-Powder.

Other remedies include the skin rejuvenation program including 3 products: Oxy-Skin, Oxy-Zap and a strong Aloe Vera concentrate available at www.acne-answers.org. These products should help prevent acne scarring."

Proactive acne treatment: Proactive Facial Cleanser For Acne

MD Stracener has written Proactive Facial Cleanser For Acne and writes "Acne can be a tough problem to fight but it can be done. The question always becomes what is the best acne treatment? The answer is always the same, the product that works for you is the best treatment. One product that many have had success with is the Proactive facial cleanser.

For those that are lucky enough not to have suffered from acne they tend to think it's just a minor problem, or that it's just a teenage problem. Nothing could be further from the truth.

Acne can be can cause emotional turmoil and play on the one's self esteem. Teens are especially hit hard. In no other time in our lives is the way we look so important to us and the comments made by other teens can be really hard on ones self esteem.

For some the acne disappears as they leave the teen years behind only to reappear the occasional zit. For others they continue to suffer sometimes into their 50's. Acne sufferers will tell you that the problem is not so trivial as some might think.

This is one of the reasons that The Proactive line of skin care products has met with such anticipation.

Especially the gentle proactive facial cleanser which has proven to be a real solution for many acne sufferers. Most acne sufferers have spent years trying one cleanser after another, sometimes having good results, other times failure. But the proactive facial cleanser seems to be something different. It works at attacking the acne at the root of the problem or should we say the follicle of the problem. Several testimonials and reviews seem to indicated that many users have had excellent results with the Proactive facial cleanser.

If you want to hear it from the users, you need only do a quick search online for acne sufferers' forums and discussion groups. There you can read for yourself how a group of people all had found results from different products yet when this group all tried Proactive Facial Cleanser they all reported good results. Even for those that did not see their acne disappear found their acne reduced to a level they could deal with in no time at all.

For years acne patients have searched the globe to find a product that worked and worked well, while enduring the physical painful and the mental anguish. Acne can be socially debilitating. Finally here is a product that seems to make a real difference in the quality of their skin and as their skin improves so does their self confidence. It appears Proactive might found the magic mix of ingredients.

The main products in the Proactive acne line are the cleanser, the toner, and the repairing lotion. Proactive says this is a unique combination therapy with the ingredients in each element of the acne solution working together to improve the condition of your skin. Not only does it eliminate the acne skin develops a healthy youthful glow. Now that's magic! This could be a brand new day in acne treatments!"

Best acne treatments is Laser Acne Treatments

Robert Kokoska has written Best acne treatments and writes "I remember the first time that I saw that there was laser treatment for acne I instantly got a picture in my mind of a James Bond movie in which he was tied up and a laser was cutting into his clothes. I though to my self I would rather live with acne than to use laser as an acne treatment. I have learned a lot sinse then and have found that for many people laser treatment could turn out to be the acne cure that they have been searching for.

The skin is the largest organ on our bodies and along with the other major organs in our bodies is used to eliminate waste. Acne, in layman's terms occurs when our pores get clogged with the natural oil that our bodies produce as well as dirt. This happens most often in the onset of puberty when the hormones are developing and also very prevalent in pregnant women. There are however many different types of acne and therefore an acne treatment that may work for one person will not work for another.

There are so many acne products on the market today. There are also a great many home remedies for acne books about with different recipes to try as well as natural treatments being touted as possible acne cures. Acne medications are more popular today than they have ever been in the past. People are also using antibiotics as an acne treatment more today than in the past so much so that the body often gets resistant to it so antibiotics are not the best acne treatment.

Laser acne treatments for severe forms of acne work by the laser killing off the bacteria that is responsible for causing the acne to begin with. Lasers used for mild acne treatments like simple blackheads and whiteheads targets the serum producing glands to simply unplug the follicle to release the serum trapped inside by heating the top layer and shrinking the oil gland. This effects the top area of the skin leaving the deeper layers of the skin virtually unaffected and able to heal without incident.

It is now believed that laser treatments are a cure for acne. There are various types of laser acne treatments available but usually there is only one or two that are the best treatment for your acne problem because everyone's skin is not the same. A new and modern natural acne treatment of the century is laser surgery because of its design to gently target and cure mild to serious cases of acne.

Just because laser treatment is now being touted as the best new cure doesn't mean that it is. It is more expensive than any of the acne products out on the market. Acne medications are often within the price range of most people plagued with acne while laser acne treatments are not. In the end the individual will have to decide what is the best acne treatment for themselves."

The Best Acne Treatments Available

GSET Publishing has written The Best Acne Treatments Available and writes " Acne, which affects the majority of teenagers, and a very large number of adults as well, can be treated using various different methods, with prices ranging from relatively inexpensive to incredibly expensive. However, the best acne treatments are those that treat acne from inside the body, as well as on the surface of the skin - since acne starts inside.

The name on the package really doesn't matter as much as what is inside the package. Some ingredients have proven to be quite effective for treating acne, while others don't seem to have any affect. Some ingredients are perfectly safe, while other's have risks associated with them. What you use to treat your acne is up to you - but it is important that you make informed decisions, in order to find the best acne treatments for you.

Benzoyl peroxide is one of the most effective ingredients found in a large majority of acne medications, however, there is quite a bit of controversy surrounding this chemical. Benzoyl peroxide has been linked to skin cancer, and it is on the FDA's 'unsure' list. This means that while it has been approved by the FDA for human use, the FDA cannot say that it is safe to use - but the FDA hasn't determined that it is unsafe either.

Some of the most effective treatments for a large majority of people who suffer with acne are: ProActiv, Accutane, and Retin-A. This doesn't mean that these medications work for everyone - it just means that it is effective for the majority of people who use these treatments.

ProActiv is a three step topical acne fighting system that does not require a prescription, although it does contain prescription grade Benzoyl peroxide. Accutane is an oral prescription medication. There are many side affects associated with the use of Accutane, such as chapped lips, dry skin, nosebleeds, eye irritation, joint and muscle pain, hair thinning, skin rash, intestinal problems, urinary problems, headaches, and vision problems. There are even some psychological side effects, such as depression. Accutane is not prescribed to women who are pregnant or nursing, due to serious birth defects. Retin-A has very few side effects, and is available in both prescription and over the counter forms. Retin-A is used to treat a variety of skin problems other than acne as well, including wrinkles, lines, scars, and discoloration.

If using one of these products is of interest to you, you should start with ProActiv. If ProActiv doesn't work, try Retin-A next. Avoid using Accutane if you can, and if you do decide that you want to give Accutane a try, make sure that you weigh the potential side effects carefully.

While these treatments are costly, they have proven to be the most successful. Therefore, in most cases, they are well worth the expense. People spend billions of dollars purchasing inexpensive acne treatments that simply do not work. If you look at it in terms of how much money you would spend buying products that do not work, in relation to the amount you will spend to purchase an acne treatment that works for a large majority of the population, you will find that you are better off spending the money on the products that work in the long run, bypassing those that do not work.

Keep in mind, however, that even though these are the best acne treatments available, this doesn't mean that other, less expensive treatments won't work for you. What works for you will depend on many factors, including how severe your acne is. Discuss your options with your dermatologist.

No matter which acne treatment you use, you must keep your face clean, keep your hair and hands off your face, use the treatment as directed, and give the treatment time to work. Failure to do any of these things will keep your acne treatment from working - no matter how good it is. You should also remember that what works for some people may not work for others. The best acne treatments are not always the best for everyone. What worked for your neighbor may cause your acne to become worse. Work to find the best acne treatment for you - and make sure you give it time to work!

Best Acne Treatment: The Best Acne Treatment May Be a Change in Diet

Ruth Stattmiller has written Why The Best Acne Treatment May Be a Change in Diet and writes "Western medicine is notoriously sophisticated when it comes to drug formulations and targeted medicine approached from a perspective based in deductive science. It has, however, been largely a failure when it comes to being open to solutions to medical problems which come from outside the realm of deductive science. That is why for years western medicine failed to draw ties between diet and acne. Medical development, and treatments for acne sufferers, has progressed significantly within the last 15 years alone. Yet the problem of acne has remained largely uncurbed, until recently.

In the past few years empirical studies first trickled and are now flooding in indicating that there are links between acne and diet. The basic premise of the research is that eating refined carbohydrates and sugar is the ultimate culprit for many individuals' problems with acne.

The scientific theory holds that when carbohydrates and sugar are metabolized they lead to an increase in insulin and an insulin-like growth factor called IGF-1 production. This growth factor then causes male hormones to begin being produced in the body in much greater quantities. These growth hormones lead directly to an increase the amount of sebum produced. Sebum is the grease-like substance that comes out in your pores which people often describe as 'oily skin'. Sebum then clogs your pores and ultimately causes to an accumulation of bacteria in those pores which cannot escape because of the sebum. This of course ultimately leads to acne.

That rather exhaustive explanation explains simply this; when you consume refined carbohydrates and sugars you may aggravate your skin, clog your pores, and develop acne.

So, what is the answer? Not surprisingly, it may be to cut back on sugars and refined carbs such as sweets and pastas. These foods provide us with very few of the nutrients we need while providing us with a great deal more by way of clogged pores. In fact, recent studies are showing that these foods may be so bad for you that your body actually fights them like it does a disease, through the production of white blood cells. Not only do these white blood cell expenditures temporarily lower your immune system, but they also cause your body to produce more waste, some of which is exuded through your pores.

But it may surprise you to know that giving up chocolate and spaghetti may not be the only way to go about getting clearer skin. Rather, there are a number of foods, in particular raw vegetables and antioxidants which can actively clear up skin. These foods act as a sort of mop within the body to soak up toxins, also known as free radicals, which are often expelled as bacteria through the skin.

So in effect, following a better diet can attack the problem of acne in two different ways, cutting back on sugars and refined carbs will cause your body to produce less of the pore clogging sebum, while increasing your intake of certain raw vegetables will significantly cut down on the amount of bacteria which is exuded through your pores. Combined, these two techniques will cut down significantly your propensity to suffer acne.

Best Acne Treatments: How To Find The Best Acne Treatment For Your Skin

James Henderson has written How To Find The Best Acne Treatment For Your Skin and writes "Acne is a problem facing many people, including both teenagers and adults. In order to rid yourself of acne, you may need to locate a quality acne treatment. During the process, it's natural to try a variety of products in search of one that works. There is no blanket acne treatment that works for everyone and the reason is because everyone's skin is different.

If purchasing an over the counter acne treatment, always be sure to read the directions and any warning labels. Follow the guidelines carefully when using the product. If you are trying an acne treatment for the first time, whether it be a lotion or pad product, apply it to a small area of the skin before continuing with the rest of the face. In some instances, depending on the individual, some acne treatment products may irritate the skin. In order to contain any potential irritation, it is also advisable to apply the acne treatment to a small area of the skin before each application even if you have previously used the product. Just because an acne treatment did not irritate the skin during its first use does not mean that it will not cause irritation in the future. A great natural cure for acne treatment is the Acne free in 3 Days System invented by a 15 year acne sufferer without pills or medication.

In serious, or prolonged, cases of acne, it may be necessary to consult a dermatologist. Specially educated to treat skin conditions, a dermatologist can recommend an acne treatment regimen that may treat the problem aggressively without causing any further damage to the skin. In seeing a physician, acne sufferers can often gain access to treatments that would otherwise be unavailable to them. Some products, which require a prescription, may help to ease acne better than retail products.

During the presence of acne, sufferers must resist the urge to disturb the problem area. Itchy skin, embarrassment and redness are to be expected. If acne is disturbed, the sufferer runs the risk of infection or worsening of the problem area.

In addition to over the counter products and medicinal remedies, there are several natural approaches to acne treatment. Washing your face in the morning and again before you go to bed may help to clear up acne. Exfoliating the skin may also help to rid the surface of harmful products, which may clog pores and lead to increased acne."

The information in this article is intended for informational purposes only. It should not be considered as, or used in place of, medical advice or professional recommendations for acne treatment. If necessary, acne sufferers should consult a dermatologist for acne treatment.

Best Acne Treatments Start With Understanding Your Current Lifestyle

William Lezubski has written Best Acne Treatments Start With Understanding Your Current Lifestyle and writes "If you happen to be searching for the best acne treatments, before you choose your treatment I would suggest that you take a little memory trip back to your teen years, and assess how your skin used to be back then.

For individuals still in their teens, I would recommend that you check and see what is going on in your life right now, and see what may be different or has changed prior to you having your problem skin!

I know most of you may think that it's all part of nature, or it's part of your family genetics, and you would like to find that miracle cure! However, the true problem may exist because of your lifestyle choices, and until you fully understand why you're currently experiencing severe blemish breakouts, or increased blackheads in your pores, you can then follow the cycle of your consistent outbreaks that cause you to feel helpless in your battle.

It's a fact that our society is placing more pressures on students, and many working individuals. Schools are placing more study loads on the student, and the business industry is downsizing, causing more hours to be placed on the employees! What this does to your body and your mind is that it places an incredible load of stress on you, as well as the affects, which can easily change your daily lifestyle.

You may be asking, how does this all come into play with my acne condition, and how do I connect these facts to my acne treatment?

There are many studies out today indicating that "stress" and the way you take care of your body, and the products you may be using are a contributing factor to your pimples and blackheads. If you can look back when you had good skin and see what you may have been doing differently, you could hopefully make some lifestyle changes for the better. With these changes, you could possibly see positive results, and avoid having to take acne medications prescribed by your dermatologist.

There are many elements that can be contributing to your skin blemishes, and the ingredients in the select treatment product you're using can also be the cause of your skin irritation, which is causing your reoccurring pimple breakouts. So let's look at some topics that have come up in some studies, and see if we can clarify some of the elements that may be affecting your current lifestyle.

Facial Medications, Caffeine, Stress, And The Sun! What Do They Have In Common, And How Does It Affect Your Blemish Situation?

I'm not a doctor, and I don't have any professional skin care background, but what I do have is a common sense approach to issues. When I read about certain acne products, and also the food and drink we consume on a daily basis, plus the type of life we live makes sense to me when we mix it all together and try and link it to our skin condition.

First we should talk about coffee, pop and alcohol, and see what the connection is to skin problems. In my opinion, the way I interpret coffee, pop and alcohol is that they contribute several elements to your body that assist in major changes to your skin.

Caffeine and sugar in coffee and pop, plus alcohols are partial diuretics that assist in drawing more water out of your body than bringing water back in, plus they're a stimulant and can prevent you from getting the recommended amount of sleep that your body needs, which ranges from at least 7 to 8 hours per night. What this all means is that by consuming these products daily, they could be changing the entire dynamics of your body, and affecting you dramatically without you even realizing the changes.

What happens is this: your body may become over stimulated with all these items going through your system, and either consumed separately or in combination, your skin may seriously become affected by these products. Depending on your body's tolerance level, your reactions could be reflected by the daily consumption.

Let's look at the connection of the cleansers, creams, and acne cosmetics you're currently using, and see why some may not work to prevent your acne breakouts or increased blackheads. When taking a common sense approach to the ingredients, avoid any product that will shrink your pores! Now this information may contradict products that say they reduce pore size, and make them look less visible.

What that means I don't know. But when you think about it for a moment, if you have a product that shrinks your pores, that's going to increase the chance that you will have more oil trapped in your skin. The more of the skin's oil that is potentially blocking your pores, the higher chance you're going to form blackheads and whiteheads, plus the trapped oil will be tasty food for bacteria that feeds off the oil and dead skin, eventually turning it into a nasty blemish. Think about that, and if it makes sense to you, then avoid products that have any astringent agents in them.

The sun is one that I have been very confused about for a long time, but again when it was explained to me, it made total sense, and now I really understand the benefits and the damages it can cause. The sun actually can help you in your battle on acne; however, the time you spend in the sun can make the big difference. I found out that the sun actually aids in killing bacteria on your skin, but you should limit your time to approximately 15 minutes per day, because when you spend long periods of time in the sun, it will eventually dry and reduce the pores in your skin. Now like above, what happens when the pores shrink? Absolutely, trapped oil and the formation of zits!

Stress, in my opinion, is the biggest contributor to your body's lifestyle changes, and believe it or not, it seems to tie in with everything above, because stress is caused by many elements from the types of food you consume, to the everyday lifestyle you lead with your work and play.

Again, I'm not a doctor, but even with my own body I notice that if I don't get enough sleep, or I worry about a project that has to be completed, and the everyday choices I make in cleaning my skin all is in some way a contributor to stress, and the changes in my body. So when you sit back and see if you can adjust anything in the way you live your life for the better, you may be on the right track to not only a healthier lifestyle, but also clearer, blemish free skin!

Adult Acne Causes and Cures

Gail Leino has written Adult Acne Causes and Cures and writes "The most likely cause of adult acne is thought to be fluctuations in hormone levels. Adult Acne especially affects women, with the current statistics at fifty percent of the population. Adult acne affects approximately twenty five percent of men. Recurrences of acne can affect people in their twenties through their fifties and it can be somewhat unnerving to be a fifty-three year old walking around with acne.

Hormonal level fluctuation in adults, due to stress, illness or even monthly menstruation, can cause the skin to secrete excessive amounts of sebum to the surface. You may notice that during these times your skin is very oily at the end of the day. This sebum blocks pores creating a build up of bacteria and dead skin cells, and eventually erupts into a pimple.

A simple way to prevent acne may simply be practicing meditation or exercising regularly to help keep stress levels to a minimum. Be sure to wash your face frequently during times of excessively oily skin. An astringent such as Witch Hazel, applied to the face right after washing will tighten pores and help keep acne causing bacteria out. Facial masks will draw impurities out of the skin. Look for masks with basil, sandalwood, strawberry, or mint extracts. You can even grow these plants yourself and make a homemade mask every couple of weeks.

Eating a healthy diet will go a long way towards healthy skin. Foods high in Vitamin A and Beta Carotene can promote healthy tissue growth. It's found in orange and green leafy fruits and vegetables. Vitamin E is an antioxidant and aids in the repair of skin tissue. It can be found in pumpkin, multigrain cereals, apples, liver, turnip greens, kohlrabi and a variety of other foods."

Addressing Adult Acne

Greg Mauro has written Addressing Adult Acne and writes "Going through high school with bad skin can be a grueling experience, but most people will grow out of it. For those who don't, it can bring a whole new set of worries and stress. Adult acne affects roughly 33% of adults. Though most people who experience adult acne do so in their 20, 30s, and 40s, it can still occur in later stages of life as well.

Adult acne, like prepubescent acne, is most often caused by secretion of androgens. Androgens are male sex hormones (also secreted by females) that trigger oil production by your skin's oil glands. When these glands become overactive, and exit of oil is blocked, the oil builds up and starts to swell. Some factors that may lead to this occurrence are: medications, frequent physical pressure on the skin and metabolic changes.

Adult acne can also be brought upon by contact with oily substances such as petroleum, mineral oil and vegetable oil as well as steroid use. Doctors have also discovered that lack of exercise and poor dieting can are also factors of adult acne.

There are multiple ways to combat adult acne. You can use home treatment, herbs (lavender, juniper, dandelion root, et al), acupuncture and surgery. It is wise to contact your doctor and/or dermatologist at the first occurrence of adult acne to discuss the best treatment for you. Depending on your skin and possible allergies, some treatments can lead to dryness, itching, and redness, without curing the problem you initial set out to battle"

Adult Acne Article

Dr. Edward F. Group III, DC, Ph.D, ND, DACBN has written Adult Acne and writes "Acne is bad enough when it strikes with puberty. But when it continues or strikes again in adulthood, it can be a real nuisance. Acne is a skin condition that usually begins around the time of puberty. More than eighty percent of teenagers and preteens will develop acne to some extent. But it can affect people of every age, gender, and race. It affects both males and females, but boys are more likely to have severe acne and to have acne that continues into adult acne.

The scientific name for the condition is acne vulgaris because acne usually strikes in plainly visible locations such as the face, neck, chest and back. Acne is an age old problem that has likely been plaguing people of all ages for centuries.

What Causes Adult Acne?

cne is an inflammation of the skin that can form in adulthood just as easily as it forms in pubescence. Acne is caused by a number of factors. Contact with an oily substance such as mineral oil, vegetable oil, or petroleum is a common cause of acne, as is the use of certain medications and steroids. However, acne is most often cause by the secretion of androgens. Acne occurs most often to teens and preteens because these androgens are initially secreted at the onset of puberty. But these sex hormones are secreted into adulthood as well and can continue to cause problems with acne. Poor dietary habits and lack of exercise also contribute to adult acne.

Androgens are male sex hormones but they are secreted by females as well. Androgens stimulate the production of oil from the skin's oil glands. Acne occurs when these oil glands become overactive and the exit from the gland is blocked, causing the oil to build up in the gland and swell. A bacteria called Propionibacterium acnes normally colonizes this swollen gland causing the development of inflammation and pus. In particularly severe cases, the glands may burst into the skin and produce cysts.

How Do I Treat Adult Acne?

Over ninety percent of acne patients, both teens and adults, respond to treatment, although the treatment may need to be continued for months or even years. Here are a few of the most common herbal, homeopathic, and traditional methods that can be used to treat adult acne.

Adult Acne Products

Home Therapy: Organic Apple Cider Vinegar swabs and other astringent cleansers work to remove the oil buildup that may become blocked in the skin's glands. These products may cause dryness, itching, and redness, so be sure to use them only on problem areas.

Herbs: Herbs such as chamomile, lavender, juniper, bergamot, dandelion root, and burdock root can be used to reduce toxicity and improve the overall condition of the skin. Echinacea and poke root are often used for their anti-inflammatory properties and red clover may be beneficial for its estrogenic action. Witch hazel has excellent astringent properties and may be very effective on adult acne.

Acupuncture: Stagnant of Chi in the channels of the face is said to be the cause of acne. Acupuncture performed on these points of the face may help relieve adult acne.

Surgery: In moderate to severe cases of acne, doctors may use surgery to open up the blemishes and remove blackheads and whiteheads. Unlike medication treatments, the effects of acne surgery are usually more immediate. And surgery is also effective in reducing the development and visibility of adult acne scars.

Cleaning the intestinal Tract: Acne can be a by-product of a filthy intestinal tract and colon. In most cases when the colon is clean the acne will go away. I recommend the intestinal cleanser Oxy-Powder."

Other remedies include the skin rejuvenation program including 4 products: Oxy-Skin, Oxy-Zap, Oxy-Powder and a strong Aloe Vera concentrate available at http://www.acne-answers.org.

Dr. Group is heads the research and development division at http://www.acne-answers.org.

How Common Is Adult Acne?

Bob Hett has written How Common Is Adult Acne? and writes "For a long time, acne was considered a problem for teenagers to deal with. It seems that acne and teens go hand in hand. It is almost a cliché of the teenage years. In fact, adult acne is also a very common problem. Many adults suffer from a variety of skin problems. Pimples are not just a problem of the young. People over the age of 25 have issues with acne, too. While adult acne occurs in both men and women, it tends to be more prevalent in women. The statistics suggest that 50% of all adult women have acne, as compared to only about 25% of adult men. Adult acne affects people from every ethnicity and background.

There are many causes of adult acne. Since the main cause of pimples is hormones, which is probably why women tend to have more zits and skin problems than men. Other things also cause acne. These can be things like overactive sebaceous glands that allow an excess of oil to be secreted onto the face, clogged pores, etc. For many people, genetics plays a role in whether or not they have acne. Other things that can trigger breakouts are stress and environmental issues like weather and allergies.

While there are many acne products available to treat breakouts and blemishes, some of the ones that work for teens can be too harsh for adults. It is important to have a good daily cleansing regimen. This alone can help many adults clear up their acne prone skin. Others find that topical treatments can help with their blemishes. For moderate to severe acne problems, some adults may find that a trip to their dermatologist is necessary. A dermatologist can prescribe antibiotics or other ant-acne medications.

As we age, our skin becomes less able to repair itself due to a loss of collagen. The skin of adults is not as resilient as that of younger people. So adult acne can be a much more serious problem because it can cause easily cause scarring in adult skin. It is a good idea to treat breakouts and not give in to the temptation to squeeze or pop whiteheads or blackheads that appear on the skin. Doing this type of thing can lead to permanent scarring of the skin.

For both adult men and women, adult acne can have the same effects on them that it does on teenagers. Emotional distress, embarrassment, and low self-esteem due to acne breakouts can be just as big of a problem for an adult as for a teen. Everyone wants his or her skin to look good. How we look contributes greatly to how we feel about ourselves, so having skin issues can be just as serious a problem as other things."

Facts About Adult Acne

John Mancini has written 5 Facts About Adult Acne and writes "When you mention acne most people instantly think of hormonal teenagers standing in front of the bathroom mirror refusing to go to school because of a pimple on the end of his or her nose. Acne isn't necessarily like that, though. It's true that Acne does appear to be a hormonal affliction but it isn't true that it's only teenagers who can get it. Adult men and women can suffer from adult acne at any age and it is not uncommon to see people of 40 suffering quite badly. Adult acne can be just as serious as teen acne causing depression and social anxiety in people of all ages and from all backgrounds.

1- Adult acne really is a lot more widespread than you might imagine. 25% of adult men and up to as many as 50% of adult women are expected to suffer from adult acne at some point during their adult lives. It really is a lot more common than you probably imagine and there is no reason to be ashamed by it.

2- The exact causes of adult acne, like teen acne, remain unknown. Certainly hormones have a big part to play in people of any age contracting acne but the exact relation nobody knows. Because of it's similarity, though, the treatments and prevention for adult acne are virtually identical to those of teen acne and are easy to use or follow.

3- Acne, in general, is one of the most common medical problems in the world and it is estimated that 30% of all visits to dermatologists will be due to acne. However, because the world looks at acne as a teen problem they fail to realize the mental anguish that adult sufferers can face. Adult acne can lead to serious depression and social anxiety as grown men and women become afraid to go out in public.

4- Scrubbing and scrubbing your pimples will not help. It is more likely to open up sores that can become easily infected. These will look a lot worse than any acne pimples and can leave some quite visible scarring. Cleansing is fine but you should avoid scratching or picking.

5- There are a large number of natural botanical remedies to help with adult acne that you may want to consider trying. Dandelion and Burdock are both proven to help as are Lavender, Dock Root, Turmeric and Strawberry Leaves. There are many more natural solutions that are very easy to find and even easier to incorporate into your daily lives."

Adult Acne: It’s a Lot More Common Than You Think

Patricia Tyler has written Adult Acne: It’s a Lot More Common Than You Think and writes "While it is true that acne most commonly appears during the teenage years, it is just as true that a large percentage of individuals suffer from adult acne. In fact, figures show that as much as 25 percent of men and 50 percent of women in their twenties up to their fifties still experience pimple flare-ups. Adult acne can have just as much negative psychological effects as adolescent acne – perhaps even more so. The stress of having a career or raising a family is bad enough. Having to deal with an unsightly skin problem at the same time would be even worse.

Adult acne can be caused by several things, one of which is mental stress. The body can react to stress by increasing the secretions of the skin’s sebaceous glands or by releasing more hormones from the adrenal glands. Oils from the sebaceous glands can block pores, while a greater amount of hormones in the body can cause hormonal imbalance – both of which can give rise to acne flare-ups or exacerbate an existing acne condition.

It is not surprising that women suffer from adult acne more than men do, since women are more prone to hormonal imbalance. It is known that changes in hormone levels can occur during menstruation and pregnancy. But men, too, are subject to hormonal changes, though not to the extreme level that most women undergo. In any case, hormones play a great role in the occurrence of acne in adults.

Lifestyle and environmental factors also contribute significantly to the emergence of adult acne. A diet that is poor in the necessary vitamins and minerals can wreak havoc on how the body’s organs functions. The skin, being the largest organ in the body, needs nutrients in order to work effectively. If the skin is unable to metabolize or secrete the waste products that it needs to because of poor nutrition, acne can result. Habits such as smoking and drinking can also affect the skin’s condition and its resistance to diseases like adult acne.

What is the best way to deal with adult acne? Like many other ailments, prevention is the key. Make sure that a proper diet is being followed; get enough rest; try to find ways to alleviate stress; maintain proper hygiene to prevent dust from accumulating and blocking the pores. Washing the face once or twice a day and using hypoallergenic or noncomedogenic cosmetics and other personal care products can go a long way towards preventing adult acne.

Treatment options abound for persons with adult acne, however mild or severe their condition may be. Dermatologists may recommend anti-acne medications to be taken in conjunction with other skin care products. More severe cases – such as those involving infection – can be treated with antibiotics to prevent complications. Very severe cases of adult acne have several therapeutic regimes, such as microdermabrasion and laser surgery. A person suffering from adult acne, whatever the level of severity, should consult a dermatologist or other qualified professionals to get the treatment option that is the most suitable for him or her."

When Adults Are Searching For The Best Treatments, It All Starts With A System

William Lezubski has written Adult Acne Treatments! When Adults Are Searching For The Best Treatments, It All Starts With A System and writes "When searching for adult acne treatments that will help you eliminate your stubborn adult acne and on-going blemish breakouts, you need to look back in your life and ask yourself some lifestyle changing questions so you can find the best solution for your acne eliminating needs!

If you have suffered with acne breakouts your entire teenage years, you may understand what needs to be done for the treatment of your pimples, or you may know exactly the treatment product necessary for elimination and daily maintenance.

However, if you had clear skin as a teen, and now that your body is changing due to hormones or pregnancy, you may suddenly experience a change in your complexion and may not know exactly how to handle the new changes in your skin.

When your pimple breakouts occur, if you notice you're getting an increase in blackheads and whiteheads in combination to excess blemishes, try to think back and remember how your skin has been in the past. If your skin was clear due to good eating habits, low stress levels, and you were getting at least 8 hours or more of sleep prior to getting your adult acne, then that's the first place you want to start.

For example: As a teenager, if you slept more than eight hours a day, drank plenty of water, and you ate more vegetables and fruit, and now as an adult you only get 4 hours of sleep, you drink less water, and you're not eating the same level of fruits and veggies, then you may want to adjust these areas first. If you change these habits, and notice no change, you then have to go to the next step, and make an appointment to see a dermatologist.

When All Else Fails, Visit A Dermatologist To Get The Bottom Of Your Adult Acne Issues!

If you can't figure out why you're still having skin problems after you made necessary internal lifestyle changes, then you should see the skin professionals to find out what's causing your stubborn adult zits, and you may be enlightened once you visit your local dermatologist.

Depending on the severity of your skin condition, you may soon find out the condition you have is caused by several circumstances. For women, acne and increased blemishes can be easily caused by hormonal changes due to pregnancy. A woman that is pregnant will have to look at alternative safe skin programs, and natural skin products would be a place to start. Women with hormonal changes that are not currently going through a pregnancy can look at other options such as oral acne medication or antibiotics, but keep in mind that this method should not be a long-term solution, so if you can avoid internal medication, look at other alternatives.

Men are somewhat different, and in most cases, increased acne causing a blemished complexion could be the lack of facial care, or mental stress in your life. For men in general, a good blemish cleansing and facial exfoliating routine combined with a healthy diet are the first steps to follow; however, we encourage that men see a skin doctor to assess their adult skin problems.

Acne and aging is a complex situation, and there is never one solution to every individual adult suffering from pimple breakouts. There are many contributing factors such as your body's changes during puberty, and for women, even the type of cosmetics you may be applying to your face. Your facial skin consists of thousands of pores, follicles, skin and oil. Any negative balance, and you have a recipe for facial infections, plus outbreaks that can lead to many skin imperfections and severe scarring for a very long time.

We touched briefly on what may contribute to your adult acne, and some of the changes that may be occuring in your body internally and also externally. Now, to find out how you can start a program to eliminate your adult blemish problem: I encourage you to read our article on "Adult Acne Treatment", where I break down some of the top adult acne systems that target stubborn facial and body acne."

Effective Care And Treatment Of Adult Acne

Jim Christian has written Effective Care And Treatment Of Adult Acne and writes "Adult skincare can be a challenging task even under the best of circumstances. Working to maintain healthy looking and feeling skin can be a complicated and time consuming task even for a person who is not afflicted with any type of troublesome or bothersome skin condition. Any man or woman who is afflicted with adult onset acne has additional challenges to face and meet in dealing with skincare related issues. With that said, by keeping some basic facts and following some proven treatment regimens, a person suffering from adult acne can achieve success in reigning this particular skin condition into control in the not too distant future.

Understanding the Causes of Adult Onset Acne

In reality, the primary causes of acne in adults are not all that different from what causes acne in children and teenagers. Indeed, in some instances when it comes to trying to trace the exact cause of adult acne, the task can be rather difficult as it is with younger people, including teenagers. In many instances there can be multiple reasons why a person becomes afflicted with acne as an adult. In some instances, an adult experiences an outbreak of acne due to improper skincare efforts. A person in such a situation is not properly cleansing and treating his or her skin on a daily basis. As a result, oils and dirt can build up on the skin causing there to be an outbreak of acne.

Additionally, there is some evidence to suggest that diet can play a role in the onset and development of acne in adults. There are a significant number of myths associated with foods and acne. However, the bottom line is that if a person does not eat a healthy and well balanced diet on a regular basis, he or she become more prone to the possibility of becoming afflicted with acne. Stress has been demonstrated to be a cause of acne in some men and women. Of course, stress can have a number of different negative consequences if it is not properly dealt with in an effective manner. On occasion, a person develops adult acne in response to different environmental conditions. In this regard, many people overlook the fact that their very homes can be the sites of contaminants in the air and in other areas that can result in different problematic conditions, including adult onset acne.

The Importance of Thorough Skin Cleansing

The most important step in dealing with (and preventing in the first instance) adult acne is a thorough and regular skin cleansing and washing program. For example, when it comes to the care and treatment of the skin on your face and neck, a person needs to make certain that he or she thoroughly cleans and washes his or her skin at least twice a day with an effective and appropriate facial cleansing product. In this day and age, there are some reliable skin cleansing and treatment products on the market for people who are suffering from acne, including adults and young people. An example of such a product that has proven to be most effective in properly cleansing skin and treating an acne condition is ZENMED™ Derma Cleanse®. Additionally, ZENMED™ Derma Cleanse® has been demonstrated to be effective in preventing acne outbreaks on the first instance.

The Necessity of Exfoliation

In addition to making certain that a person utilizes an effective skin cleansing product on a regular basis, that person will also want to make certain that he or she regular exfoliates the skin. Exfoliation is vital for the removal of dead skin cells, dirt, debris and oils that otherwise can accumulate on the and in the skin. By not regularly exfoliating, these waste products can accumulate on the skin, clogging the pores and then establishing an environment ripe for an acne outbreak.

Viable Skin Treatment Regimens

As mentioned previously, it is important for a person to utilize reliable and viable skin treatment regimens for the care and treatment of acne. Unfortunately, there is a wide array of different products on the market that are not in fact effective in the care and treatment of an acne condition. As a result, it is imperative that a person use only those treatments and products that have an established track record for successfully resolving an acne condition. Also as was mentioned earlier, ZENMED™ Derma Cleanse® is an example of a product that has proven itself successful in the care and treatment of acne, including adult onset acne."

Conclusion

While the outbreak and presence of adult acne can be a frustrating experience, there are now solid methods through which a person can work to resolve an adult acne condition. By following the tips and steps outlined in this article, an adult can be well on his or her way towards combating an acne condition. Additionally, by paying attention to the tips delineated in this article, an adult can work to prevent an outbreak of acne in the future.

Adult Acne Treatments The Natural Way

Danna Schneider has written Adult Acne Treatments The Natural Way article and writes "Adult Acne - Why Must We Suffer Aging Skin AND Acne?

As a young woman who suffered through agonizing periods of merciless acne breakouts in the already angst-filled years of my young adulthood, I thought that once I became an "adult", I would no longer have to suffer the unbearable cycles of noticeable, painful cystic acne.

I remember feeling like every zit on my face was the focal point in every conversation I had with people, and I swore that everyone had clearer skin than I did. Even a day with clear skin was like a rare treat to me, to be savored cautiously, as I knew it would never last, and a breakout was just waiting for it's next opportunity to strike.

Little did I know, that when I hit adulthood, my battles with acne were far from over. Even as I had my twenty-fifth birthday, I still had to battle that neverending cycle of clear skin, followed by periods of days or even weeks where my skin would inexplicably erupt into a maze of strategically placed blemishes, mostly on the chin area, forehead, and around the nose.

I still found myself searching for the latest acne products and treatments at drugstores, all of which didn't work at all. They merely dried my skin and made it look worse by adding redness and chafing to my growing list of skin problems.

There are many other adults that are finding they still have to fight the battle with acne - now coined "adult acne". Why is it, that even beyond our adolescent years of hormonal turmoil, we are finding that we must battle a new enemy, the formidable adult acne that we thought we might be fortunate enough to escape since we paid our dues in our teenage years. It is estimated that more than fifty percent of adult women between the ages of twenty-five and fifty-eight have some type of adult acne, and those numbers are only getting larger.

So what do the experts have to say about the cause of adult acne? Hormonal fluctuations are the most common cause of adult acne, followed by stress, which in itself actually triggers hormonal imbalances, especially in women. So basically, any way you cut it, adult acne is primarily caused by hormonal shifts and fluctuations, many times caused by stress, but also caused by diet, lifestyle changes, birth control pills, medications, and so many other circumstances.

Some good lifestyle rules to stick to for clear skin are pretty much common sense, but nonetheless are worth repeating. Eating a balanced diet, with adequate protein, little or no refined sugar products (which cause hormones to spike up and down rapidly), and plenty of skin-nourishing fruits and vegetables is an absolute must for clear, healthy skin. I notice that after even one day of a refined sugar binge, I may wake up to a puffy, red and sometimes slightly broken out face. This is proof that you are what you eat - especially when it comes to your skin.

Second, try to diminish stress levels by taking walks, getting cardiovascular exercise of some sort, or practicing relaxation techniques in the form of yoga, meditation, or tai-chi. It sound trivial, but stress levels and how you allow yourself to be affected by daily stress, really reflects in your skin's appearance.

Third, you really should consider giving a natural acne treatment a try. When all else failed, and it was clear that nothing else would work to permanently clear my skin, or at least get the ball rolling to even my hormone levels out and purify my skin from the inside of my body, I tried a natural acne remedy that I am forever grateful for.

I still have clear skin today, and get compliments on how good it looks, at age 30. After years of taking prescription acne medications like tetracycline, Retin-A and erythromycin, I was finally able to clear my skin permanently -and at a fraction of the cost of constant dermatologist consultations and repeated prescription refills.

These new, advanced acne treatments really offer you what no prescription antibiotic can in that they are completely safe, contain all natural botanicals that purify the skin from the inside out, and in many cases, can clear your skin permanently with very little follow up treatment if you take them as prescribed and for a long enough period to have lasting effects."

You owe it to yourself to try a natural acne remedy. There are just too many great acne products out there that will get the job done better than anything a dermatologist can prescribe!

Adult Acne Solved!

Kirsten Hawkins has written Adult Acne Solved! and writes "Acne has always been a dreaded occurrence in our life. Most of us have carried this burden in our teenage years and after almost seven teenage years we think we are finally home free. Then one morning in your twenty sixth, twenty seventh or even twenty eighth year of your existence you wake up with a huge zit on you face. And even worst, sometimes it is not just one but two or even three or even four! And they just keep on sprouting like weeds in an inhibited garden! So you wonder, I’m already an adult so why, why, WHY?

Adult acne is more common than we thought. Almost five percent of adults have adult acne mostly in their twenties, thirties and even forties and beyond. Adult acne can be found in the face and sometimes even on the neck and on the chest and back area. There are many reasons for the occurrence of these devils incarnates and we will enumerate them here plus ways on how to outsmart them.

Adult Acne Source Number 1: those pesky hormones

And we all thought we are done with having problems caused by them! Apparently, they still have a last attack. Experts still can’t pinpoint the main reason why our oil glands are more prone to breakouts because of hormonal shifts in this age line. Unfortunately, these up and down hormonal shifts are the main culprit in adult acne. But fortunately, there’s an easy cure for these shifts and that is the common birth control pill. But take note that this is not applicable to you if you are pregnant. For stubborn and hard to kill zits, you may also use medication that has the ingredient retinoids that can help unclog those pores. If still doesn’t work then it’s high time to up your ammunition. Use antibiotics (may be topical or even oral) to reduce the swelling.

Adult Acne Source Number 2: stress

Stress is also a major source of adult acne. But we can’t help it, can we? Our world is full of stress inducing situation and things that it is already a part of our daily lives. We have bills to pay, kids to feed and a house to clean. So much stress we endure in a day that it results to the dreaded adult acne. This happens because stress triggers the body to secrete cortisol that results in the secretion of more hormones thus resulting to zits. So what do we do when the bump pops? Relax! Do some de-stressing. Go on a vacation or just spend a day doing nothing. Eat right, sleep right and do your exercise routine regularly. If your darn acne are still there after doing these things for a month or two then it is high time to see your dermatologist for some treatment and prescription.

Adult Acne Source Number 3: Daily Grooming Products

It is a fact that as we grow older we tend to become more vain especially in our twenties to thirties when we are still finding our ideal mate. We tend to use a lot of products to make ourselves more attractive to the opposite sex. Unfortunately, this only results to adult acne as these products tend to block pores which can result to zits erupting like crazy in our pretty little faces. How ironic, isn’t it? We bought and used these products to make ourselves more pretty only to have these little craters embed in our face. So what to do? Simplify! You don’t need all these products to make yourself pretty. Just use basics like moisturizer, cleanser and sun block. Purchase cosmetics that are noncomedogenic and make sure that they are oil free especially your moisturizer. Treating Adult Acne With Anti-aging Moisturizers

Paul Resnick has written Treating Adult Acne With Anti-aging Moisturizers article and writes "Softening the skin and relieving wrinkles with anti-aging moisturizers is becoming a welcome and effective method of treating acne. To date there is a large and growing number of people, especially adult women, who have benefited from new techniques that not only reduce acne but also improve aging skin.

There is connection between anti-aging and acne. In the 1970's two Dermatologists, Dr. Eugene Van Scott, and Dr. Albert Klingman begin investigating vitamin A as an alternative to benzoyl peroxide for the treatment of acne. Benzoyl peroxide is the active ingredient in most over-the-counter acne remedies. such as Proactiv, Clearasil and others. Dr Klingman eventually developed Retin A, a derivative of vitamin A, and Dr. Van Scott began working with the structurally similar Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs). Neither of these researchers attracted much attention until it was noted that women using these substances for acne were experiencing a reduction in skin wrinkling. Retin A and AHAs quickly became most widely used anti-aging skin care ingredients worldwide.

Acne and Wrinkling share the same problematic skin condition: excessive undetached dead skin tissue building up on the skin's surface. This stiffens the skin. Wrinkles result because a less flexible outer layer of skin creases the underlying growing tissue. The skin thus increasingly grows into deeper and more pronounced lines. Acne results when this dead skin tissue clogs pores and inhibits the normal passage of oils and moisture, causing whiteheads or blackheads and eventually pimples. Both AHAs and Benzoyl peroxide, however, can relieve this condition by exfoliating this dry outermost layer of the skin.

The problem is that benzoyl peroxide, while it is effective in removing oil, dries out the skin thus increasing the amount of dead skin tissue on the surface of the skin. This in turn clogs pores. For most women however, using moisturizers to relieve this dryness is not an option. The oils and waxes used in moisturizers aggravate acne because they compound pore blockage.

Several companies have worked to solve this problem and have developed moisturizers for acne prone skin. Murad and Olay have developed a number of products. At Niora, we have worked to solve this problem by creating moisturizers formulated with specially emulsified jojoba oil. Jojoba oil, while intensely moisturizing, is a fine oil with a far smaller molecular weight than sebum, or skin oil. Jojoba penetrates these heavier skin oils, unclogging pores and dissolving nascent blackheads and whiteheads. Because of Niora's emulsification process, dissolved sebum and excess oils rinse free leaving the skin soft and clean.

These lighter moisturizers can be blended with alpha hydroxy acids, which in turn exfoliate the skin and work to prevent excessive tissues from building, back up in the pores. Typically these types of exfoliating cleansers must be used daily to be effective, but they replace normal moisturizers and cleansers and fit easily into most skin care regimes.

These new skin care products thus offer the best of both worlds: an effective acne treatment that moisturizes the skin and reduces wrinkling. To date thousands of women have successfully used these new products demonstrating that the best acne treatment might well be anti-aging skin care.

Adult Acne Treatment Simple Solutions

Kay Smith has written Adult Acne Treatment Simple Solutions article and writes "Are you one of the millions of adults who have acne? Many adults are dealing with acne, the first signs of wrinkles and grey hair all at the same time - talk about physical and emotional tolls. Life just seems too unfair at times. Fortunately, there are some simple solutions for treating acne. Really. You don't have to live with it.

To properly treat acne, one must first understand what causes it. When hair follicles and sebaceous glands become inflamed acne follows soon after. Sebum is an oily substance made by the sebaceous glands. Bacterial growth and inflammation result when too much sebum is produced. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, the four basic mechanisms contributing to acne are hormones, increased sebum production, changes inside hair follicles, and bacteria.

These simple solutions require persistence and consistency.

First things first, talk to a Dermatologist. A Dermatologist can provide you with the best solutions for you based on your medical history, age, skin type etc. Depending on the severity of your acne and your individual circumstances, your Dermatologist may want to prescribe an antibiotic, a vitamin A derivative like Isotretinoin, or one of the other acne drugs now available.

Use non-comedogenic products. Non-comedogenic basically means - not likely to block the pores of the skin, or cause blackheads or acne. There are many non-comedogenic products available today, including, makeup, foundation, moisturizers, sunscreen, lip stick, etc. If it's something that you apply to your skin you should be able to find a non-comedogenic version. In fact, you can also find non-comedogenic and medicated makeup with acne fighting ingredients like, benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, and sulfur. These products shouldn't clog your pores and should help treat acne.

Proper skin care is also very important. Gently washing with a facial cleanser that contains benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, or sulfur will also kill the bacteria that causes acne. Proactiv Solution is one such product that is used my millions of people - with great results. Whatever product you decide to use, do not scrub your face as this can irritate your skin and make your acne worse.

Even though there is no cure for acne, there are several effective methods available today to treat it. By discussing your acne with a Dermatologist you can determine the best course of action for you. In the mean time, keep your chin up - there are treatments available that will help you with your acne situation. Imagine waking up one morning and noticing how clear your face is becoming. It really is a great feeling!"

Treatment Options for the Patient with Acne Vulgaris

ANNE D. WALLING, M.D. has written Treatment Options for the Patient with Acne Vulgaris and writes "Acne vulgaris is a common skin disorder with a peak incidence around 18 years of age. The condition should not be underestimated in terms of its negative psychosocial consequences. Brown and Shalita review the range of treatment options and stress the importance of individualizing patient therapies.

Patients with acne have high rates of sebum secretion, providing a lipid-rich growth medium for Propionibacterium aches. High sebum production may reflect increased production of adrenal and gonadal androgens. In most women with acne, serum androgen concentrations are not higher than normal; however, some women may respond to antiandrogen therapy. Patients with acne also have abnormally adherent desquamated cornified cells that may plug the follicular canal instead of shedding from the skin surface. The combination of plugged follicular canals and excessive sebum production leads to the development of comedones. As P. acnes proliferates in this medium, it contributes to the inflammatory process, leading to the typical papules, pustules and nodules of acne vulgaris.

In patients with mild to moderate acne or noninflammatory comedones, topical therapy is indicated. Tretinoin reduces the formation of comedones by reversing the abnormal keratinization process. Because topical tretinoin is irritating and photosensitive, therapy usually begins with the lowest-strength cream or gel, increasing the formulation strength until the desired result is achieved. Other topical agents include salicylic acid, adapalene, azelaic acid and isotretinoin, but not all of these preparations are currently available in the United States. Topical benzoyl peroxide targets P. aches and is available in gels, lotions, creams and soaps. Local irritation may be reduced by using the lower-strength preparations or by applying the product less frequently. Topical bacteriostatic antibiotics such as clindamycin, tetracycline and erythromycin are effective in acne vulgaris but may induce resistant strains of P. acnes. Combination topical therapy is commonly used in the treatment of acne, because concurrent therapy with several agents has a synergistic antimicrobial effect. Benzoyl peroxide, topical antibiotics and tretinoin may be used concurrently. Several agents may be combined in one preparation, but an alternating schedule of application of individual agents may be less irritating. The choice of vehicle depends on the patient's skin type. Non-greasy gels and solutions tend to dry the skin and may be preferred by patients with oily skin. Creams and lotions may be more cosmetically acceptable.

Oral antibiotics such as tetracycline, doxycycline, minocycline, erythromycin and cotrimoxazole are used in patients with mild to moderate disease, those with affected areas that cannot be adequately covered with topical medications and those with a high potential for scarring or substantial pigmentary changes. These medications act primarily by inhibiting bacterial growth, although some also have anti-inflammatory properties. The potential benefits and side effects should be weighed when choosing an agent. Treatment with oral antibiotics should generally be continued for four to six months; maximal clinical improvement may not be apparent before three months of therapy. If acne worsens during antibiotic therapy, bacterial resistance may have developed.

Severe nodular acne is best treated with isotretinoin. Therapy usually continues for 20 weeks. About 15 percent of cases relapse after a single course, but most patients who relapse show enhanced results from a second course of treatment. Further courses of isotretinon are seldom necessary. Clinical improvement may continue for up to five months following a course of therapy, so retreatment should not be attempted within six months. Isotretinoin has several serious potential side effects, particularly spontaneous abortion and congenital malformations. Stringent methods of contraception are mandatory when this drug is used in women with childbearing potential.

Other possible therapies for acne include hormonal manipulation to reduce androgens and spironolactone, which blocks androgen receptors and has antiandrogenic effects."

Proactive Skin Care Products a Real Answer to a Difficult Problem

Peter Crump has written Proactive Skin Care Products a Real Answer to a Difficult Problem and writes "Acne is often seen as something of a trifling problem, a few zits that complicate a teenagers already confusing life, but nothing that’s going to kill them – and, of course, they’ll grow out of it! Anyone who has ever suffered with acne however, whether as a teenager, or as one of the growing number of people who develop the skin condition during their adult years, will tell you that the problem is not quite so trifling. This is why so many of these sufferers have greeted the arrival to the market of Proactive skin care products with such enthusiasm. Most acne sufferers have spent years trying cleanser after cleanser in order to find something that will really make a difference – and now customer testimonials would seem to indicate that they might at last have found their answer in Proactive skin care products.

A quick review of any acne sufferers’ online forum or discussion group will highlight the usual fact that widely differing things tend to work for each individual – but the Proactive acne solution increasingly boasts a marked improvement in skin quality for a large range of sufferers. For many years, acne patients have searched long and hard – enduring the continuation in the meantime of a problem that can be physically painful and socially debilitating – for a product that would make a real difference in the quality of their skin and their self confidence, and it seems that Proactiv might just have found the right combination of ingredients to achieve just that.

The core products in the Proactive acne treatment are a cleanser, a toner, and a repairing lotion, which utilize what Proactiv calls a unique combination therapy. This means that the ingredients in each element of the Proactive acne solution work collectively in order to improve the condition of your skin. And while many of the acne products available can reduce the number of blemishes on your skin, most of them are harsh and astringent, which can dry out your skin. The Proactive acne treatment however improves the whole look and feel of your skin, not only working on your acne, but also giving the soft healthy looking skin that acne sufferers have always dreamed of.

They usually say that if it sounds too good to be true then it must be false, but Proactive skin care products really deliver all that they claim to, offering a real answer to those who suffer from acne."

Acne Prevention and Effective Remedies

David Maillie has written Acne Prevention and Effective Remedies and writes "Your granny might have told you about the rigorous life-style she stood by to keep acne at bay. She might also have some acne prevention tips to give you if she notices an acne or two - 'go for natural cleansing diets minus spices,' 'have plenty of water,' 'take out time for regular skin-care,' so on and so forth. Following these acne prevention tips definitely renders your skin excellent service - removing acne, preventing further attacks and scar formation.

It is not necessary, however, that the bitter acne-episode of your life will come to such an easy and rapid ending. In many cases, acne returns with increased severity. Actually, the hullabaloo surrounding acne prevention was based on a vague understanding of the acne condition. However, clogging of skin pores, overactive sebaceous glands, hormonal activity and a range of different factors have been associated with acne, with each factor perpetrating acne in different age groups and under different conditions.

With seemingly no escape from acne, the best way to handle your acne will be to go for a safe treatment as soon as they put up their first appearance. With hosts of available remedies like home treatments, topical treatments, hormone therapies and many non-prescription drugs, peels and lotions, your chances of shedding the acne-scale is nearly hundred percent. The advanced scar treatments and a little patience will be enough to take care of your acne scar before it starts bothering you.

If you want to see some real magic - not acne prevention but acne (along with scars) vanishing in just 2-3 days - you can try the TCA or Trichloroacetic Acid Skin Peel. Certified as 'safe and most effective' among peels by the medical fraternity, the effect of the TCA peels last for about 6 months. Recommended for adult acne, TCA peels tighten sagging skin to give you a fresh, young look too. Tca Peels have been proven to eliminate all acne causing bacteria, change skin pH so acne is less likely to form, and greatly improve or erase old acne scars.

Acne prevention might not always be possible for you, but preventing the acne condition from further deteriorating is something, which you always can! The best tip that will surely prevent acne from spreading is restraining yourself from squeezing or picking at the acne lesions.

Although acne isn’t life threatening it can be uncomfortable and hard on your ego. There has always been a debate about the actual cause of acne. The actual cause isn’t as important as finding a cure.

So is there a cure for acne. Well yes and no. There are many products available and for some they are a cure, for others they do not help. A cure is only a cure when you find a product that works for you.

Most acne treatments will take time to work. It usually takes around 8 weeks before you see any significant improvement so you are going to have to be patient. Once you’ve got your acne cleared up it’s important to continue with the treatment that’s working so it does not return.

If you have serious acne it is best to consult a dermatologist. However in milder cases you will often be able to get it under control by yourself just by preservering. Try these tips to conquer your acne.

Exercise
Regular exercise helps keep your whole body in shape. It builds your immune system and helps eliminate toxins from the body. It’s a great start to fighting acne.

Diet
You need to eat at least 5 servings of fresh fruit and vegetables each day. Fresh fruit and vegetables are full of nutrients that your body needs. They boost the immune system and are good antioxidants. They can work towards helping you get rid of the acne. Try to avoid refined sugars and fatty foods which have are not good for you or your skin. You also need to drink at least 8 glasses of water a day to flush your system of toxins.

Choose cosmetics that are water based and hypo-allergenic. Avoid oil free products, coal tar derivatives, and heavy creams. Make sure you wash your skin thoroughly every night to remove makeup residue.

Hormones
Hormones can play a role in acne flare ups and they can be used to reduce outbreaks. Your doctor may decide to use HRT to eliminate or reduce your acne outbreaks.

Clean Skin
You need to avoid harsh scrubbing of your face but you also need to thoroughly clean your skin nightly. Use a mild cleaning regime every night. Once or twice a week you should also use an exfoliator to gently remove damaged skin and unplug pores.

Shaving
Is actually a great exfoliating treatment the removes dead skin. However you should never shave an area that is infected or inflamed. Always use a shaving cream if your skin is sensitive.

Stress
Can be a contributing factor to acne so try to relax and unwind. Emotions trigger chemical reactions in the body which can cause an outbreak.

You can help control your acne outbreaks by following these simple steps. What are you waiting for?"
