Moisturing The Secret Skin Care Ingredient

S.J. Peel has written Moisturing The Secret Skin Care Ingredient and writes "Moisturizers is The Most Important Ingredient In Your Daily Skin Care Routine.

If you have dry skin or maybe winter has left your skin itchy, dry and flaky, a moisturizer can help. As you probably know, the top layer of skin is dead, and the layers below supply it with the moisture -- water, oils and salt -- that it needs. Moisture is constantly lost through evaporation even under the best conditions. When you bring in winter winds, low humidity, and dry indoor heat the skin's water loss is greatly increased. That is why moisturizers applied to the skin play such an important role.

There are two types of moisturizers:
Emollients - These work very much like your skin's natural oils by forming an oily barrier on the skin's surface that seals in some of the moisture and blocks evaporation.

Humectants - These attract and hold water on your skin's surface.

Which moisturizer is best for you depends on your skin type, and the ingredients in the moisturizer. And, most times, it has very little to do with expense. It's a choice that you make after evaluating all factors. In fact, there have been studies which concluded the most effective moisturizers were the least expensive ones.

One thing to consider is this: the simpler, the better. The more ingredients in a moisturizer you use on your skin, such as, perfumes, emulsifiers, coloring, thickeners, etc., the greater the chance you will have some kind of allergic reaction if your skin is sensitive.

Preserve Your Skin's Moisture - Tips and Suggestions
-Use warm water as opposed to hot for bathing or showering, and limit the time spent to 10 to 15 minutes a day. Use mild soaps which you dilute with water before applying to your skin. Excessive bathing, especially in hot water, and the use of strong soaps wash away the natural oils that are there to help keep water in the skin.
-If you bathe rather than shower, use a little bath oil in the water.

-Apply a moisturizer to the skin all over your body immediately after bathing or showering. In this way, the skin's moisture is sealed in. Apply light films of moisturizer rather than one heavy coating.

-Dry hand thoroughly after washing. Apply a good hand cream.

-Give elbows and knees special attention during winter months.

-Exfoliate gently with a natural luffa sponge, and apply a moisturing cream.

-Always wear gloves in cold weather to limit the evaporation of moisture from your hands.

-In cold weather, cover your face with a scarf or possibly a ski mask.

-Protect lips with a lip balm when out in the winter months. Avoid licking them which causes chapping and cracking.

-Eat a nourishing, well-balanced diet for your inner as well as outer health.

-Drink 8-10 glasses a water a day. Drinking adequate water on a daily basis is also important for glowing, healthy, moisturized skin.

Follow these steps and watch your skin improve."

Tanning Bed Options and Hints

George Anderson has written Tanning Bed Options and Hints and writes "Having tanned and nice looking skin is becoming more and more important in our society. We often have to use tanning beds in order to get our skin to the desired color. There are a few things that should be done to get the best tan, and the very first one is a good moisturizing lotion. Try to go for high quality moisturizers and tanning lotions - not only do they provide a nicer and longer lasting tan but their actions on your skin are also more delicate.

Tan extender lotions should also be in your bag when you are using a tanning bed. The main role of this lotion is to keep the tan intensity constant between exposures to the artificial light. Sometimes, if you are not using the moisturizer and extender, you might lose half of the potential tan. However, do not use the same outdoor tanning oils when you are tanning indoors. Because of the differences between natural sunlight and artificial tanning light, the outdoor oils might actually prevent you from getting a good and uniform tan.

Being constant about your indoor tanning sessions is important, as skipping a few will put a hold on the process. Your tan develops in time and is a gradual process, and repeated exposure to ultra violet (UV) lights is the only way to keep it going. If you just skipped a session or two, chances are you can go back to your regular tanning schedule without any worries. If you took a longer break, make sure to consult with the manual of your tanning bed and see if you need to start over.

You also need to be very careful when planning your initial tanning session, as one exposure time might be just fine for one skin type and disastrous for another. If you are a fair skinned person, try to find a program that will target pigmentation more precisely, without risking burns, of course. Getting to know your skin type is important - there are 5 categories, starting from 1 (albino - extremely white skin) and going all the way to 5, with highly pigmented skin. Consult your tanning bed manual for exposure times for each skin type, or ask the attendant at the sunning parlor to create a safe and efficient schedule for your particular skin type.

Many people wish to eliminate trips to the tanning facility and get their own tanning bed. You may choose the vertical or horizontal tanners. The horizontal ones, also known as capsules, are the classic tanning beds and they are more relaxing than the vertical ones. However, vertical tanning beds do have some strong points, such as a better all-round tan and no pressure points that you get in horizontal tanning beds. Before purchasing the tanning bed you should check the space it requires to be installed and what the electrical specifications are. Models that use more tanning lamps will also eat a lot more electricity - on the other hand they are the ones producing the fastest tan. Although the initial cost of the tanning bed will be higher, you might still consider this investment a good one, especially if you are a frequent tanner.

Skin Care and Acne

sairohinikumar has written Skin Care and Acne and writes "How can you avoid acne infections with simple skin care techniques?

Do you know that just by following some simple skin care techniques you can avoid the problem of acne? Here are those techniques. Follow these suggestions and stay away from acne.

Regularly wash your face
Wash your face with a mild cleanser three times a day. Also wash your face after heavy exercise. Generally, some people with acne try to stop outbreaks and oil production by scrubbing their skin using strong detergent soaps and rough scrub pads. Though scrubbing will not improve acne; it can make the problem worse. Importantly, don't forget to rinse your skin after washing.

Shaving and acne
Those who have acne can use electric or safety razor which is more comfortable for them. Guys who use a safety razor should use a sharp blade. They should soften their beard thoroughly with soap and water before applying shaving cream. Nicking blemishes can be avoided by shaving lightly and only when necessary.

Don't handle your skin frequently
People who squeeze, pick or pop their zits develop scars or dark blotches on their face. They should also avoid rubbing and touching their skin lesions.

Avoid sunburn and suntan
Many of the medications used to treat acne can make a person more likely to sunburn. Sunburn that reddens the skin or suntan that darkens the skin may make blemishes less visible and make the skin feel drier. But these benefits are only temporary. And, there are known risks of excessive sun exposure such as more rapid skin aging. There is risk of developing skin cancer too.

Tips for choosing makeup
If you are getting treatment for acne you need to change some of the cosmetics you use. Cosmetics you use should be oil free. It will be hard to apply foundation evenly during the first few weeks of treatment. It is because the skin becomes red or scaly with the use of topical tretinoin or benzoyl peroxide. Oily hair products may eventually spread over the forehead and cause closed comedones. So it is advisable to use products that are labeled as noncomedogenic. And, in some people, even these products may cause acne. So it is necessary to take extra care with makeup.

Skin Care Treatment For A Smiling Radiant Skin

David Maillie has written Skin Care Treatment For A Smiling Radiant Skin and writes "Recent years have seen huge developments in the field of skin care treatment. Nonetheless, the countless choices you are being offered in the form of skin care products and remedies are rather baffling. The harm that this multitude of choices is doing to the layman is increasing every day. Here are some effective full-proof skin care treatment options and tries to resolve this crisis.

Skin Care
A little bit care of your skin will avert the effects of aging and the harsh treatments meted out to the skin by external elements. A regular skin care treatment (cleansing-moisturizing) regimen followed strictly will keep your skin healthy and happy.

Thus, make it a habit to clean your body with some mild soap that does not rob the skin of its natural oils and moisture. Clean your facial skin with a mild cleanser at least twice daily - once in the morning and again before going to bed. Do not forget your scalp skin either. Shampooing twice a week with a gentle shampoo will keep dandruff and similar hair problems at bay.

Sun protection of your skin is as essential as moisturizing. Hence, settle on facial moisturizers and body lotions that contain SPF. Working as a foil to prevent sun damages, regular use of SPF based moisturizers will lower your risks of developing skin cancer.

Inclusion of retinoids (the antiaging forms of vitamin A), vitamin C and alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) to your skin care routine will prove helpful in the long run. They arrest the aging process by combating skin dryness, pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles to give you a fresh, rejuvenated look.

Treatments
So far so good, but what happens if your skin starts showing signs of damage in the form of acne, scars, stretch marks and all that! Well, there is nothing to fret for there are skin care treatment options abundant. Right from chemical peels to face-lift surgeries, you just have endless choices and all you need to do is consult a skin specialist before going ahead with a treatment.

If, however, you opt for Trichloroacetic Acid - TCA peels you will have nothing to worry. The medically approved 'no pains only gains' treatment promises you relief from a host of skin problems. Hence, you can use this skin care treatment safely and effectively for acne, blotchy pigmentation and discoloration, skin freckles and dullness, sun spots, wrinkles and many other skin conditions.

Used in clinics, salons and spas, TCA peels are a guarantee for 100% satisfaction. It helps you tackle your skin problems without surgery and with minimal downtime. The most wonderful aspect of the TCA skin care treatment is that it assures long lasting results. Thus, once you have taken a treatment you can conveniently forget about it for the next six months and only be aware of your beautiful, radiant skin (for more information on TCA skin peels for in home use at great savings please see the link below).

Great Looking Skin - A Simple 4 Step Skin Care Guide

Donna Kelly has written Great Looking Skin - A Simple 4 Step Skin Care Guide and writes "Step 1: Decide what type of skin you have.

This is important so you know how to care for your skin and what products to use. There are 3 basic skin types: dry, oily and combination skin types.

Type 1: Dry Skin Dry skin occurs when the dermis does not secrete enough oil, or sebum. The result is tight, drawn, flaky skin and a dull complexion. In more extreme cases, dry skin lacks elasticity and can be extremely sensitive to the sun, wind, and cold temperatures.

Type 2: Oily Skin This type of skin has over-reactive oil producing glands, which makes the face shiny, especially the forehead, down the central panel of your nose and the chin (the T-zone). The pores of this skin type are enlarged making it prone to blackhead, pimple and acne. Oily skin needs special cleansing to keep the pores unclogged.

Type 3: Combination Skin People with combination skin typically have some oily skin and either normal or dry skin on different parts of their face. Normal skin has a balanced oil and water content and feels smooth and velvety, not dry or oily. Normal skin is evenly toned with tiny, generally unclogged pores. After a wash it feels smooth and comfortable. Normal skin only occasionally breaks out in spots.

Combination: Normal to Oil People with normal to oily skin generally have normal skin on their cheeks and oily skin with enlarged pores on their T zone, the area that stretches across the forehead and down the nose and chin. The T-zone needs extra attention as spots may often break out in this area.

Combination: Dry to Oily This skin type is also marked by oily skin in the T zone and dry, taut skin on the cheeks.

Step 2: Develop a good daily Skincare regime.

There are 3 steps to basic daily skincare:
a. Cleansing b. Toning c. Moisturising

Let's break down each step.
Cleansing does just that, it cleans your skin. By cleansing, you are removing any dirt, oil, bacteria and makeup.

Toning does three things: it removes anything that your cleanser didn't already take care of, it restores the pH level of your skin and it prepares your skin to receive the moisturiser.

Moisturising helps to seal in your skin's natural oils and it acts as a barrier between your skin and the environment. Even oily skin needs a moisturiser, but chose a light product. It is best to moisturize immediately after applying toner. Moisturising is something everyone of every skin type should do, including those with oil rich skin.

Besides these daily steps you should also, less frequently, exfoliate and use a facial mask.

Exfoliation allows you to remove dead skin cells sitting on the surface of your skin. The circular motion in which exfoliating should be performed also helps to stimulate your skin allowing oxygen to come to the surface. Exfoliating is a crucial step for those with either dry skin or those with dehydrated oil rich skin.

Facial masks give you an extra boost to combat any concerns you might have for your skin. Just remember not to keep your mask on for more than 15 minutes because you could actually burn your skin. All masks should not be applied on the eyes (there are eye masks specifically formulated for this delicate area) and should be washed off with a warm face cloth.

So how often should you really be doing all of this ? Cleansing, toning and moisturising should happen twice daily; morning and night. You can exfoliate and give yourself a mask every one to two weeks depending on your skincare concerns.

Here are the steps you should follow for your day to day routine:
1. Cleanse 2. Tone 3. Moisturise

And here are the steps to be followed on the days you choose to also exfoliate and apply a mask:
1. Cleanse 2. Tone 3. Exfoliate 4. Tone 5. Mask 6. Tone 7. Moisturise

This may seem like a lot to do but your every day routine shouldn't take more than 3 minutes and your weekly routine no more than 20 minutes.

Step 3. Choose appropriate skincare products for your skin type
Your beauty specialist will be able to advise you on the best products for your skin type and skin care routine. Step 4. Lifestyle impacts on the health and appearance of your skin, here are some lifestyle tips for enhancing your skin's appearance:
1. Avoid over exposure to the sun.
Sun damage leads to hyper-pigmentation (brown spots) which can develop into serious skin disease. Excessive exposure can also exaggerate and thicken fine lines. Use an SPF 15 or higher foundation or sun cream on all exposed skin, especially on your face.

2. Don't smoke
Easier said than done for smokers but please remember your skin is a large organ and it needs a lot of circulation. Smoking impairs circulation dramatically. That's why smokers' skin can look dull and gray

3. Get adequate rest and nutrition
Eat right and get plenty of rest. Keep vitamins such as C and E in your diet regime.

4. Protect yourself from stress - both emotional and environmental stress.

5. Touch your face less and wash your hands more!
It's very tempting to pick, poke, squeeze, and scratch in front of the mirror. But the more you traumatize the skin, the greater your risk of scarring. Apply treatment products and let them work.

6. Keep your makeup clean.

Replace the sponges in your compact on a regular basis.
7. Exercise.

Exercise promotes capillary functioning which can decrease premature aging. It also increases oxygen to the tissues which helps skin look young."

Beautiful Skin without Cosmetic Surgery

Natalie Aranda has written Beautiful Skin without Cosmetic Surgery and writes " Skin care is basic to extend the healthy beauty of your face that is your presentation card, the first thing that most people notice when they first meet you. Preventing dehydration and other factors, which are directly responsible for skin aging all over your body should be a must, but particularly important when it comes to talking about facial skin care.

Actually, there are a number of products intended to keep optimal skin conditions, reverse age-related marks, or regain the youthfulness that has gone, such as spider vein cream, or cream for stretch marks, which are at the same time a natural beauty lift, but without cosmetic surgery. The sooner you start a preventive anti-aging treatment, the easier your skin will respond in a positive manner.

Along with beauty products especially designed to achieve radiant, healthy skin, there are a few almost cost-free techniques, which are priceless, starting from a cleansing routine performed at least twice a day, using a mild, natural, soap or inexpensive cleanser designed for your skin type. If your skin is dry, avoid the soap and clean only once.

Make your skin care program a relaxation time. Add a few drops of essential oil to your cleanser to boost its cleaning effect adding the aromatic quality of jasmine, spearmint, orange or rose, among many other essential oils you can get from your health store or over the counter pharmacy.

As part of your skin care always wear a sunscreen and lip-screen with at least SPF 15, containing UVA and UVB protection, to avoid the novice ultraviolet (UV) radiation from the sunlight, and making sure to reapply it when your activities demand a prolonged stay outdoors.

Apart from applying to your face a cream for stretch marks, exercising is another useful aid to keeping healthy skin, because exercise oxygenates your cells facilitating waste removal through your skin. Whether, you are fitness devoted or a woman who does not like the idea of exercising, or does not have enough time for sophisticated routines, just by walking, biking or jogging you are helping with your skin care.

You can improve not only your skins appearance, but also manage your weight effectively, increase your energy and enhance cardiovascular fitness and muscular endurance. Additionally, drink plenty of water, because it keeps your skin hydrated, moisturized, and impurities free. As the final step of your daily skin maintenance routine, sleep well and never go to bed with makeup on, because the skin needs to breathe by night.

Following these easy steps, your chances to undergo cosmetic surgery are minimal, particularly if you reduce or eliminate the consumption of alcohol, drugs, chemicals, and heavy metals that damage your skin. Complement your skin caring routine with creams such as spider vein cream, especially designed to prevent aging effects and other internal and external natural products that improve your overall health, which at the end translates into beautiful skin."

Skin Care Tips for your Acne Conditions

Devean Green has written Skin Care Tips for your Acne Conditions and writes "Treating your acne can be an overwhelming task what with all of the medications available these days. The best way to find treatment for your acne is to first learn about your skin. There are 3 main skin types. Knowing what type of skin you have is the first step to effectively controlling your acne. If your skin is oily a gel product is best; if it is dry, you should choose a cream based product. People with sensitive skin should choose products with lower concentrations of active ingredients.

It may be best to visit a dermatologist when choosing acne treatments. With so many different factors affecting what causes acne and there are so many treatments to choose from you may feel more comfortable getting the help of a professional when making your decision.

If you would rather control acne your own way, understand that it is very important to read all labels and always, always use as directed. As with all medications, educate yourself on any side-effects or warnings.

Acne treatments are available in several different ways including:

- Prescription Medications - Creams and Gels - Facial Masks - Topical Treatments - Over-the-Counter Treatments - Home Remedies

Prescription Medications
Oral antibiotics (tablets), taken daily for around 3 months, can be prescribed for inflammatory acne. These pills act to kill off the bacteria infecting the skin. However, it may take four to six months for the benefits to be seen. For women, a standard combined oral contraceptive pill (containing an estrogen and a progestogen) can improve acne symptoms. Antibiotics do not prevent pores from becoming blocked so treatment to prevent blackheads, such as benzoyl peroxide, is often also prescribed at the same time.

Creams and Gels
Lotions that contain benzoyl peroxide dry out the skin and encourage it to shed the surface layer of dead skin. Benzoyl peroxide also has an antibacterial action. Together, these effects make it harder for pores to become blocked and for infection to develop. When used as directed, these products can make a big difference to the overall appearance of your skin.

Facial Masks
Facial masks can be a great addition to your basic skin care regimen by offering extra deep cleaning and exfoliation to troubled skin. Masks send a concentrated dose of proven acne fighters to your skin and deliver them deep down. A good facial mask can act to keep even the most troubled skin clean and clear, reducing the frequency and severity of breakouts.

There are several benefits of using clay masks. As a facial clay mask dries it tightens the skin, shrinks the pores and naturally pulls excess oils and impurities such as whiteheads and blackheads from your skin.

Topical Treatments
Topical antibiotics work by killing the Propionibacterium acnes bacteria. This helps reduce the small infections in the pores, and also indirectly keeps the pores open.

Over the counter Treatments
Over-the-counter remedies are available anywhere from your local pharmacy to the grocery store and are intended to treat mild to moderate acne. These treatments include the creams and gels mentioned previously.

Home treatment
It's important to keep spot-prone areas clean, so wash the affected area twice a day with an un-perfumed cleanser. Never, ever pick a zit! This could lead to scarring as well as spread the infection. No home treatments for acne will work immediately. It can take weeks, if not months, for significant effects to be noticeable. Never sleep in makeup and wash your face in the morning when you wake up and at night before you go to bed."

Skin Care Treatments - How to Look Younger for the Holidays

Ken Black has written Skin Care Treatments - How to Look Younger for the Holidays and writes "Do you have company coming over, or are you visiting family and friends for Christmas ? Are you planning to go out on New Years Eve ? Whatever the reason, most people want to look their best at least during the most important times of the year.

So, what ways are out there to make you look more stunning as fast as possible ?

Well, you could try and lose some weight, but that's not easy of course, especially if you have lots of pounds to lose. And, can you lose it all within one month ?

You might also be able to go to an expensive Spa and get a total makeover. Good idea, but, that might cost one thousand dollars or more.

What about just going shopping and buying some high end shoes and clothes to make you look younger ? Another fair idea, but that might set you back two hundred dollars or more.

If you’re between the ages of thirty five and ninety five, you might want to try making your face more youthful looking. After all that’s what people notice and remember the most.

A premium anti wrinkle and anti aging skin care cream or lotion is often referred to as a "face lift in a jar" and can do wonders for your looks and often has excellent effects within thirty days. And the best products usually sell for less than one hundred dollars. Truly a great bargain and an easy way to quickly transform yourself into how you may have looked years ago.

So why do people get wrinkles anyway ?

You can find an indepth discussion of this at www.skin-care-reviews.com/wrinkles-101.html, but to summarize, sun exposure, smoking, and your age contribute to the breakdown of collagen and elastin, the fibers that keep your skin firm and supple. You can’t fight the passage of time, but you can apply sunscreen if you’re going out into the sun, quit smoking, and use an anti wrinkle cream to battle the effects of skin damage.

Try and buy a product that contains some or all of the following :

1. Alpha, beta and poly-hydroxy acids, which gently remove surface layers of skin to remove fine lines.
2. Argireline - is derived from amino acids that occur naturally. It works by relaxing facial tension because it reduces excessive release of the neurotransmitters, called catecholamines, that make your facial muscles tense up. When your muscles aren't tense, they don't contribute to wrinkles.
3. Edelweis Extract - isn't just something found in a song from "The Sound of Music." Edelweiss Extract is a strong antioxidant that cleans up the free radicals produced by metabolism and by pollutants as well. These free radicals voraciously combine with almost anything, including the components of your skin, causing serious damage. In addition to being an antioxidant, Edelweiss Extract helps protect skin by blocking ultraviolet light.
4. Shea Butter - is derived from the nut of the karite tree of West Africa, where it is commonly used in soap. Shea Butter is a natural moisturizer and skin tightener. It contains cinnamic acid, which helps protect your skin against ultraviolet light. It also includes natural latex, which has hypoallergenic qualities. The fatty acids in Shea Butter, along with the other ingredients, promote healing and regeneration of the skin, and work to prevent the skin from drying, cracking, burning and wrinkling.
5. Vitamin A - is an antioxidant that is necessary in many ways, including for healthy skin, sight, growth, bones and epithelial cells (cells that line the nose, throat, lungs, mouth, digestive system, vagina and urinary tract). Vitamin A penetrates the skin effectively to reinforce collagen and elastin, firming the skin and counteracting wrinkles. It also works to improve skin pigmentation by eliminating aging spots.

There are other fine ingredients like Matrixyl, Dermox, Evening Primrose Oil, and more, that assist in bringing back that radiant looking appearance to your face.

Some of the leading products on the market are : Olay Total Effects Intensive Restoration Treatment with VitaNiacin, Revitol Anti Wrinkle solution, Pond’s Dramatic Results Active Face & Neck Mositurizer with glycolic acid, and Avotone Wrinkle relaxant cream.

The advantage to these products is that they usually have no side effects, do not require a prescription, are often just as effective as injections or chemical peels performed by a doctor, and they can be purchased at fine stores or at the manufacturer’s websites on the internet. The only disadvantages is that they are not free and they do require you to apply them daily in most cases.

However, the results are often amazing. Many people claim they look ten or more years younger after using the product for four to six weeks. However, like anything else, results may vary. You have to try it out for yourself. Best to go with a company that gives a thirty day or longer guarantee, so you’re protected either way.

A new you could be waiting right around the corner."
Happy holidays !

The Best Acne Treatments

Tim Gorman has written The Best Acne Treatments and writes "The best acne treatments may be the ones that help you avoid the acne in the first place. The best acne treatments can be prescribed by your doctor. You will have to decide the best acne treatments for you.

One of the best acne treatments has to do with keeping your skin clean. There are many products on the market that can be considered some of the best acne treatments available.

Changes in your diet can be another one of the best acne treatments. Some people insist that one of the best acne treatments is to eat a high-fiber diet. The best acne treatments involving diet also mean cutting down on junk foods, chocolate, tea, coffee, fried foods, sugar, sodas and artificial sweeteners. These dietary changes are considered by many to be some of the best acne treatments.

The best acne treatments may be the ones that involve adding supplements to your diet. Acidophilus can be taken in capsule or liquid form and is usually taken 2 or 3 times a day. The best acne treatments that involve using supplements may also include some of the following: brewer’s yeast, chromium, Vitamin B6, Zinc, Vitamin C and E, Vitamin A and B-5, selenium, essential fatty acids and Vitamin B-complex.

The best acne treatments may be those suggested by your physician. Your family doctor may recommend a dermatologist who may know of the best acne treatments. There are medications that can be used to help with acne and your doctor will be able to prescribe them for you.

The best acne treatments may vary depending on the individual and the type of acne."

Accutane Treatment: Accutane Side Effects: Should Depression Be A Concern?

Naweko San-Joyz has written Accutane Side Effects: Should Depression Be A Concern? and writes "Medical professionals and acne-pestered adolescents have no doubts about the effectiveness of the severe acne drug isotretinoin. It's the looming possibility of side effects such as depression and fetal damage that makes people uneasy when considering using this medication.

Accutane (isotretinoin) is one of Hoffman-LaRoche's most popular and controversial pharmaceuticals. This week, a study published in the Archives of Dermatology vindicated isotretinoin from causing depression. In this report, Christina Y. Chia, MD, from Saint Louis University Health Sciences Center, St. Louis, and colleagues examined whether patients with moderate to severe acne treated with isotretinoin experienced an increase in depressive symptoms compared with patients treated with a topical antibiotic, topical retinoid, and an oral antibiotic.

Dr. Chia found that "The use of isotretinoin in the treatment of moderate-severe acne in adolescents did not increase depressive symptoms. On the contrary, our study shows that treatment of acne improves depressive symptoms".

Five years earlier, in 2000, the isotretinoin-depression link still appeared misleading. That time, the Archives of Dermatology posted study, headed by Dr. Susan S. Jick, from the Boston University School of Medicine, which found no evidence that isotretinoin increases the risk for depression, suicide, or other psychiatric disorders.

Even though isotretinoin finds ample support among dermatologists and psychiatrists, a host of parents, politicians and medical professionals hail isotretinoin as a medical misfortune.

For instance, Dr. David J. Graham, the Associate Director for Science and Medicine in FDA's Office of Drug Safety, recently warned that Accutane should be taken off the market. And while there are few studies with any negative observations about isotretinoin, Dr. Douglas Bremner's research at of the Emory University School of Medicine has linked isotretinoin treatment with changes in brain function. At the conclusion of this study, published in the American Journal of Psychiatry, Dr. Bremner concurred with Dr. Graham's view that isotretinoin proves too dangerous for human use. Dr. Bremner explains that to invoke depression, isotretinoin must influence the brain. During the investigation, brain function of the subjects was measured using positron emission tomography (PET) before and after four months of treatment with isotretinoin. Isotretinoin treatment was associated with decreased brain metabolism in the orbitofrontal cortex- the area of the brain known to mediate symptoms of depression. Yet, there were no differences in severity of depressive symptoms between the isotretinoin and antibiotic treatment groups before or after treatment.

The pessimistic effects of isotretinoin also caught the attention of Diane K. Wysowski PhD. Dr. Wysowski noted that in June 2000, isotretinoin ranked among the top 10 drugs linked to depression and suicide attempts in the FDA's Adverse Event Reporting System database. In 2001, Dr. Wysowski examined isotretinoin's depression inducing potential and posted her findings in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology. Dr. Wysowski concluded that more studies of isotretinoin are needed.

She also advised patients and their parents to immediately report mood swings and symptoms that are suggestive of depression such as sadness, crying, loss of appetite, unusual fatigue, withdrawal, and inability to concentrate to their prescribing physician. These protective measures can avoid more serious side effects and permit appropriate treatment, including consideration of drug discontinuation and referral for psychiatric care.

While dissension among researchers still exists about whether or not isotretinoin causes depression, one idea most of them can agree on is that more research on the side effects of isotretinoin are desirable. If you are not in the mood for being an isotretinoin guinea pig, Geoffrey Redmond MD, author of The Good News about Women's Hormones, suggests using hormone therapy and/or using Retin-A if isotretinoin seems too chancy for you."

Accutane Treatment: Accutane Alternatives

Danna Schneider has written Accutane Alternatives and writes "I remember both my cousin and I, who were only two years apart in age, each suffering through adolescence with fairly severe acne problems, dreamt of a day when we'd find a miracle cure for a smooth and beautiful complexion. I, on one hand, had been on everything from Retin-A to Tetracycline and Erythromycin for my acne. She had also been prescribed these drugs and even additional topical treatments which would work for a little while, but then become ineffective.

That was fifteen years ago. At this time, there were no serious and effective alternatives to agressive acne treatment. Accutane was pretty much it.

I remember feeling envious when she was allowed to go on Accutane, which at the time was practically a "miracle" treatment for those with stubborn and persistent breakouts. The drug was not without it's warnings back then though. I remember the biggest warning was to not get pregnant while on the medication. It was actually mandatory to be on birth control if you were being treated with Accutane, since the medication drastically increases the likelihood of birth defects.

Other than that, I was oblivious to any other warnings and I didn't care about them quite frankly. When you're fifteen and you have severe acne, you would do almost anything to have a clear complexion, especially when your peers can be cruel about physical imperfections!

Green with envy, I tracked my cousin's progress eagerly, and hoped to talk my parents into allowing me to go on this agressive medical treatment. Her skin did break out much worse at first - to the point where she did not want to go out in public due to the large and painful inflammations. This was a known drawback, so I took heart in knowing she would clear up later. Then, as promised, her skin did clear very nicely, and all that was left was the old scarring.

Looking back, I am glad I never took this serious drug. Especially now, hearing about the new allegations of serious depression and even suicidal tendencies that some Accutane patients have experienced. You can't search the net for Accutane without coming across stories of litigation, and advertisements for lawyers who exclusively represent Accutane patients.

Not only are the potential side effects scary, the drug also permanently dries up your primary oil-producing glands, which are the mechanism responsible for acne. While this is good in acne prone adolescents, what about when your skin starts aging? You WILL need that oil as your skin ages, to replenish and protect the moisture in your skin, and help prevent the signs of aging and progression of wrinkles.

My cousin now has some regrets too, since her skin seems to be chronically dry and flaky. She blames the medication for some of her premature aging signs as well, and hypothesizes that had she not undergone Accutane therapy, her skin may have maintained more of it's elasticity in later years.

You should know, there are some excellent natural alternatives on the market today that will prevent and fight acne internally just as well as Accutane can, for a fraction of the cost, with no adverse side effects and excellent, long-lasting results. You just need to know where to look!"

Acne Scar Treatment: Short Procedure

Acne Scar Treatment has written by Seth Miller and he writes "Acne scars develop after severe cases or when the acne has been forcibly picked or scratched. There are many types of acne scars, each entirely treatable.

The only sure method of acne scar treatment is prevention early on. In general, you should never pick or squeeze acne, especially inflammatory acne or "pustules". Squeezing forces infected material deeper into the skin, causing additional inflammation and possible scarring.

But there are many acne scar treatment options. All acne scar treatments are short procedures - fifteen minutes to an hour - but recovery times vary from fifteen minutes to many months. Scabbing, redness, swelling, flakiness, dryness, bruising and uneven skin tone are common post-treatment effects. Acne scar treatment can cost anywhere from $50 to over $3000. Ask a dermatologist which type of acne scar treatment is right for you.

Dermabrasion works on shallow acne scars. For decades, sandpaper was used to scrape away damaged skin, allowing new skin to grow in its place, but now machines with rotating diamond edged wheels are used.

Laser resurfacing is a newer resurfacing technique, with the same effects as dermabrasion. Penetration depth into the skin is more easily controlled with a laser than with dermabrasion and other methods.

Chemical peels are designed only for the lightest of cases. It involves application of different types of acid to the skin in order to remove the top layer so that a smoother layer can surface.

Punch techniques are used for deep acne scars. Punch replacement or excision involves removing the pitted scar, followed by a skin graft or suture. Punch elevation, on the other hand, just cuts the scar loose and allows it to float up to the level of surrounding skin.

Subcision is a method whereby the scar tissue is broken up underneath the surface of the skin, forming a pool of blood under the scar. The blood clot helps form connective tissue under the scar, leveling it with the surface.

Dermal fillers are used for deeper acne scars. Material - often collagen or fat - is injected under the scar to bring it to surface level. Injections usually last about six months, although research into the longer lasting materials continues to this day."

Acne Scar Treatment and Removal

Acne Scar Treatment and Removal has written by Rita Lambros-Segur, M.H. and she writes "Beautiful skin, without acne scars, is every woman's dream (and some men's too). But it seems only a small fortunate group with good genes ever attain it. But always remember that skin is a reflection of one's health and is the largest organ in the body.

Hence, it makes sense to cleanse and nourish from both the INSIDE and OUT. Your face and body do not need more clogging, synthetic oils and lotions. They need real nutrition that can make a difference when applied topically as well as nutrition internally to enhance detoxification and a healthy blood supply to the vessels beneath the skin's surface.

Natural Acne Scar Treatment Starts with Healthy Blood
That sounds odd I'm sure, but what determines the appearance of our skin, among other things? The existence of poisons (or the lack thereof) and nutrients within the bloodstream feeding the skin cells.

Healthy skin will never exist in the presence of health-depriving toxins from pesticides, PCBs, dioxins, etc. How do we get rid of these guys? Well, any good herbalist would recommend good diets including lots of raw fruits and veggies along with whole grains, seeds and nuts.

Of course, adding plenty of purified water is also vital. Perhaps a quality mineral and vitamin formula, too. But aside from the basics, what else can be done? A program of detoxification.

Detoxification for Healthy Skin
To get healthier, which includes acquiring healthy skin, most herbalists recommend colon cleansing. Then, urinary tract cleansing. Then comes liver, lymph, lung and blood support. You'll find excellent products in several places, but we've had success with what's offered here: Electrical Body Products.

If one can eliminate most refined sugars from the diet, that would be a plus, but that's difficult for most people. Try cutting down, at least.

But the most crucial form of detoxification may be sauna therapy. And not just any sauna will do. Several research papers have shown the efficiency of far infrared (or radiant) heat therapy.

Far Infrared Sauna Therapy
Whole-body hyperthermia treatment causes the excretion of sweat from the sebaceous glands of the body, where these harmful materials are stored. Sweat is not excreted from the sebaceous glands using a normal sauna.

Carbon heaters emit far infrared rays which match the body's own wavelength, which is essential to improving blood circulation and the health of internal organs in the body. In the lying position, the hyperthermic chamber treatment does not lower oxygen levels in the blood or increase lactic acid.

Sweating therapy with carbon heat allows your body to produce a great deal more perspiration through your pores. Why is that good? Because sweating therapy is excellent for overall purification and balancing and can effectively be combined with other cleansing therapies.

About one liter of sweat should be excreted from the user during a 30 minute treatment. This volume of sweat cannot be matched by a normal sauna. Here is our recommendation: hyperthermic chamber.

The skin is the largest eliminative organ in the body and the elimination through sweating is more passive and requires less expenditure of energy than elimination via the kidneys and bowels. And with the hyperthermic chamber above, one has a tool for heating the body core temperature - vital for destruction of viruses and bacteria.

Well, that's the cleansing and nourishing side of skin care, what about topical help for fading or reducing acne scars?

Nutritious Skin Care for Acne Scar Fading and Removal
Detergent soaps do nothing for your skin except change its pH to alkaline and cause more damage than good. Use, instead, a high quality vegetable soap which works to protect and nourish your skin. Now "natural" means something different depending on whom you ask, but we think natural means to avoid using artificial dyes and to use only 100% vegetable bases.

Then, to remove dead skin cells from the surface of our skin, French Green Clay and Fuller's Earth Clay work wonders. This combo always promises us a smile with its remarkable results. The minerals and sun-dried features of these clays (and perhaps some Neem bark powder added to the mix) help dull, lifeless complexions revitalize through oxidation and circulation. This way, the skin's ability to use and retain vital oxygen is increased.

Why is that important to you? Because this creates a healthy, clean environment for the skin, and acts as a catalyst for transporting the micronutrients found not only in these clays but in the fabulous Neem bark powder, into the deeper layers of the skin. You are left with a more youthful, clearer, and vibrant appearance.

These clays and neem bark powders have enormous drawing capabilities and even a lightening effect on the outer epidermal skin layer. That's why people of all skin types can benefit from their dramatic effect on even the most severe acne conditions, as well as remineralizing, hydrating and exfoliating normal to dry skin types. By removing dead skin cells and reoxygenating the skin, your complexion can be detoxified and removed of bacteria, while healing is promoted.

And to top it all off, your last crucial step for acne scar treatment must be organic rosehip seed oil.

Rosehip Seed Oil For Beautiful Skin
Ask any dermatologist what therapies work best to renew skin, and his/her solutions would include Vitamins C and A in a topical application. However, it's very difficult to find a stable form of Vitamin C that could reach deep enough into your skin to do any good at all. And laboratory synthesized trans-retinoic acids (Vitamin A derivatives) have harsh side effects.

It's no accident that organically grown and tested essential oils and organic rosehip seed oil contains essential fatty acids, a high concentration of bio-available Vitamin C and natural tretinoin, a derivative of vitamin A.

In this natural state as part of a complex system of unsaturated essential fatty acids, these nutrients' actions are controlled and slowly released by nature, eliminating risk of overdoses or harsh side effects thus helping to boost collagen and elastin levels for smoother, firmer skin.

Rosehip oil has been tested on old scars and improvement was noted in all cases. These old and new scars were caused by acne and otherwise. Time will fail us if we were to relate all the good experiences we've heard about scar removal using these luscious oils, but suffice it to say you can be the next living testimonial about healthy beautiful skin with faded acne scars (and in many cases, elimination of scars altogether).

Apply morning and evening and several times throughout the day if you are targeting both new and old scars or keloids.

In just weeks your skin will look smoother, healthier and more vibrant.

So that's our story and experience in creating beautiful skin and we think with the above program, you can't but improve your skin from lifeless and dull to vibrantly alive and acne scar free."

Acne Scar Removal Cream

Acne Scar Removal Cream has written by Tim Gorman and he writes "If you have acne scars you may be interested in acne scar removal cream. Where can you find acne scar removal cream? What can you expect from acne scar removal cream? You can get acne scar removal cream at a pharmacy. You may need to see a doctor or dermatologist for a prescription for acne scar removal cream.

Sometimes people think they need acne scar removal help after they have had treatment for the scars. There are times when these scars are simply a color change and acne scar removal cream will not help and may not be needed at all. You may just need to give it some time.

Mederma is a type of acne scar removal cream product. It is actually a gel based medication and has been very helpful in many situations.

If the acne scars are brown in color you can use bleach with hydroquinone along with the acne scar removal cream. This combination can be very helpful in the removal of acne scars.

One acne scar removal cream that has shown promise is ScarGuard ScarCare. This acne scar removal cream improves saucer-shaped acne scars quite nicely, especially the newer scars. Another acne scar removal cream that has received high marks is DermaNew Microdermabrasion Total Body Experience. This acne scar removal cream is free of oil. You can use this acne scar removal cream with a topical Vitamin A derivative.

Cellex-C is yet another acne scar removal cream that is recommended by many. Use this acne scar removal cream with a topical Vitamin A product. Use these creams at separate times during the day.

Removing scars the natural way

Removing scars the natural way has written by Martha Fitzharris and she writes "Quick and easy information access has been a consequence of the fast development of technology. Thus, more and more people over the world are gaining with all the aspects of the Medias, from news to fashion.

It's a general tendency for people to be vainer with themselves caused by the effects of lots of advertisements that depict the essence of being beautiful as an important element that leads you to successfulness. No wonder why a lot of people are so much into cosmetic surgeries these days. All of them want to improve or enhance their appearance for being physically acceptable in society.

Consequently, one of the most undesirable problems in a person's appearance is face scars. Whether it is caused by acne or other incidents that resulted in wounds, scar is an unsightly spot in the skin.

Scar develops if there's an abnormal function of the skin cells and it may rise shiny and thin, hard and rough, white or dark textured, depending each case. Sometimes it can be reminded where the wound was "stitched-up", others the scar can be so tough and fibrous that it interferes with the body's capability to move a joint.

Experts say that it is easier to take measures to minimize a scar early than to having to correct one later. That is why it is very important to remove the scar as early as possible.

Scar Remover

There are many products in the market today that had been proven to be effective in removing scars. These products range from gels, healing creams, and other skin care products. There are also surgeries and other operative procedures that are used to remove the scar. Patients may choose whether they want to have it removed through laser treatment, plastic reconstructive surgery or natural treatments.

Reconstructive surgeries are performed to repair extra-visceral defects, malformations congenital or acquired and to restore and prevent further loss of function as well. Wherever, plastic surgeries are done most of the time for esthetic and cosmetic improvement; it is applicable to many parts of the body and numerous structures, in these types of treatments, living tissue may be transferred from one part of the body to another.

The natural way, always best

There are instances where people would rather use natural methods instead of the artificial or commercialized form of treatments. The main reason is that many people feel that they are better with the natural methods instead of undergoing several painful procedures.

The best way to remove a scar is to apply skin care products that contain natural ingredients known to effectively eliminate scars.

Today, examples of natural scar removers are those that contain vitamin C. It is considered a natural antioxidant that neutralizes the skin and effectively promotes the speedy reproduction of healthy skin cells more efficiently and safely.

Another effective product for scar treatment is Bio Skin Care cream witch have biological activators that trigger the self healing process of the skin. It only has natural elements with no side effects that surely enhance your skin.

So, people who really want to remove scars in an effectively and safely way, better do it trough natural treatments. It will always be better "in the natural way".

Acne Scar Removal Options - no scars please!

Acne Scar Removal Options - no scars please! has written by GSET Publishing and they write "For people who suffer from acne, the only thing worse is acne scars - those marks that are left behind as a constant reminder of what you went through while dealing with acne. Quite a bit of research has gone into acne scar removal, and some methods for acne scar removal have proven to be very effective.

Acne scar removal can be both painful, and expensive. In most cases, it will take more than one round of treatment to get the best results, and often, even with the best results, the scars are not completely removed, but are greatly diminished and less noticeable. Most acne scar removal treatments are done in the dermatologist's office, and the patient is sedated.

The newest method for acne scar removal is laser skin resurfacing. Using a laser, the scarred skin is vaporized, leaving the layer of unscarred skin below the vaporized skin visible. Doctors are recommending laser skin resurfacing more than other treatments due to the fact that the results seem to be better, and fewer recurring treatments are necessary. While this method has been proven to be quite effective, other older methods of acne scar removal are also still used.

Dermabrasion is probably the widest known and used method of acne scar removal. A machine is used to literally abrade the skin, removing the top layer. Skin will have a smoother appearance, but the results are not as effective as laser skin resurfacing. Dermabrasion is less expensive than laser skin resurfacing, however.

Chemical peels are also a popular method for acne scar removal. Chemical peels work just like Dermabrasion and laser skin resurfacing, by removing the top layer of skin. But instead of using machinery or lasers, chemicals are used to remove the top layer. The results are about the same as the results that are achieved with Dermabrasion - and chemical peels are usually less expensive.

While laser skin resurfacing, Dermabrasion, and chemical peels are the most popular methods for acne scar removal, injection methods are also used. The injections may contain collagen, or fat taken from other parts of the body. While these injections work well, they do have to be repeated often, and they can be quite expensive. The injections do not actually remove or heal the scars - it simply hides them by filling them up.

Deep acne scars can be removed with punch grafts. Grafts of skin are taken from other parts of the body, and used to replace the scarred skin. This is a drastic method, and is usually only used for severe acne scars. This is a surgical procedure that is usually done in the hospital, not in the doctor's office. Less severe acne scars may be treated with over the counter creams that contain Retin-A. Your dermatologist can also prescribe medications that contain Retin-A for acne scar removal. Again, this will only work for very light scarring. Moderate to severe scarring requires other types of treatment, such as dermabrasion, chemical peels, or laser skin resurfacing.

Everyone is not a candidate for acne scar removal. Many active diseases or pre-existing conditions can prevent you from pursuing acne scar removal treatments. Such diseases or conditions should be discussed with your health care provider before seeking treatment for acne scar removal. Furthermore, if you have an acne breakout during your acne scar removal treatment, that treatment will be discontinued until the outbreak clears up, and there is no sign of infection.

Of course, the best treatment for acne scar removal would be not to get the scars in the first place. Do not pop or squeeze acne pimples, and do not leave acne pimples untreated. If you don't use anything else, use an antibiotic ointment on the pimples to ensure that the infection clears up properly. However, if you do have acne scars, and you are thinking about acne scar removal, talk with your dermatologist to determine which method will work best for you, keeping in mind that some treatments work well for some people, while different treatments work better for others. Your dermatologist will be able to determine which treatment will work best for you, based on the severity of your acne scars, and your skin type."
